Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
Hi,
My mightymouse will not scroll up or left. I attempt to do this with it but when I move the scroll ball nothing happens.
When I scroll down or right it does work.
When I scroll down or right I hear and feel soft clicking coming from the scroll ball, but when I scroll up or left it is silent and feels more smooth.
Has anyone had this problem? Is my mouse busted or can it be fixed?

It's likely dirty

Re: Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
There are two solutions.
1) Clean it as per the Apple document linked above.
2) Buy a new mouse that is either or both of
a) actually cleanable
b) doesn't need to be cleaned
It was around the time that I needed to physically crack open the case in order to effectively clean my mouse, that I switched to a new one.

Re: Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
Since this comes up every few months it seems, I'll tag along:
What about cleaning the plastic "ring" part that rests on the mousing surface? Mine is constantly dirty, I'll scrape off the mung every few days but is there a longer-lasting alternative? And yes, I wash my hands as often as I'd think required.
I believe a mouse pad helps, even if technically optical mice don't need it. Also, when you clean the underside of your mouse, clean the mousing surface too.
Is a good thing that you wash your hands often, but dust is EVERYWHERE! so you still need to clean every now and then.

Re: Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
after my mm not scrolling for a few day I broke down and I just took my mouse apart yesterday and gave it a good cleaning. now I love my mm again. I know that in another month or so I will want to throw it across the room again but for now I'm happy.
if you do take it apart to clean it, go slow and be careful.

Re: Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
I used to carefully clean my MM as Apple describes. About a year ago my MM stopped scrolling in some direction and I didn't want to stop and clean it so I just flipped it over on my pant leg and scrubbed it up and down and around. It worked perfectly and that's the way I've cleaned it since. I've used the same MM since I got this iMac about 2 years ago. Every once in a while I clean the wood on my desk where I use the mouse.
Also, before I got the MM I used an ergonomic Kensington and my wrist would start aching within a 1/2 hour. Since I changed to the MM, no pain at all.
I love my Mighty Mouse.

Re: Mighty Mouse won't scroll up or left
This seems like a great thread, and I'm going to revive it because I've never cleaned a mighty mouse. However, one christmas I bought my parents a mm for their iMac (old G5). They love the scroll wheel. But it now is broken. And they want a new one. I will clean this thing. I will break this mother effer open and try to clean it that way if needed. Of all the great things Apple makes, the dirty scroll wheel problem is ugly.
If you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.
