Re: Problems with 160 GB iPod classic restarting

I found a tip that says to hold Menu and Sleep at the same time.  Since the touch is my wife's I'll have to take a shot at it when I get home and see what I can get, then come back here to deliver an update.

Re: Problems with 160 GB iPod classic restarting

I laid out my problems to the Apple Genius and after a few reasonable questions he agreed that they are likely due to some hardware problem (while reserving the possibility that if the same problems happen on the new iPod classic that they are likely due to some media file weirdness). I am listening to my new iPod at this very moment.

The problems I had went away for a few days after installing iTunes 9, so it may be a while before I can declare that mine are gone.

I'm crossing my fingers for you.  There's nothing like a nice bright shiny new toy that doesn't work right.

Re: Problems with 160 GB iPod classic restarting

Well, it's been over a week and none of the problems I had have re-occurred with the new iPod Classic.

Just a correction: for some reason I was thinking that it was the 160 GB version. This is incorrect: I have the 120 GB version.

Then it has to be a weird bug with the media you're loading onto it.  Is it any specific podcast that does the trick?

Um, NONE of the problems have re-occurred. My new iPod classic has been problem-free so far. I have tried to put my new iPod deliberately into similar situations that gave me problems with my old iPod and I haven't been able to repeat them.

I did have a play problem with an audiobook, but that one turned out to be a problem with the file itself that was reproducible in iTunes and not just on the iPod classic. With some effort I was able to start playing the file within a few seconds of the problem area so not much was lost.

Oh, okay, sorry.  I misunderstood.
