TV in the Fall

Sons of Anarchy so far has been extremely satisfying.
I'm on the edge of my seat. A very well done series.

Dollhouse - I enjoyed Season 1 but Season 2 thus far has been crap.
Off my watch list.

Stargate Universe - not as strong as SG1 or SGA but very watchable, hopefully once the character building is done it will start to get some neat story lines.

So - what have you been watching, and is it worth your viewing time?

Re: TV in the Fall

Once I saw the first 3 episodes of SG:U, I set my DVR to record the series.

I already record all 3 CSI's, both NCIS's and L&O:SVU. Once Flashpoint returns it will be recorded as well.

Re: TV in the Fall

I've been recording SGU as well - but to DVD-R, I don't have a disk based DVR.

Re: TV in the Fall

Dollhouse: Love it (but I tend to love all things Whedon).  Seriously, fans of Firefly can see some of Whedon's better writing practices being employed.  The last preview mentioned Summer Glau joining the cast, which I'm dubious of.  Glau found a niche in Firefly playing River Tam, but was a flatline in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

Heroes: Haven't bothered since halfway through season 3.  I hear they made a lesbian couple.  I'm still not interested.

Glee: Got to the third episode before I wanted to vomit.  The musical numbers are too professionally recorded, giving them all a fake feel that distracts from the swiss-cheese plot.  Some characters are completely unbelievable, which is only a further distraction.

House: Loving it, even though it's plot oddly got rid of several good characters too quickly.

Fringe: Can't record it fast enough.

Parks & Recreation: Enjoyable, but treading on thin ice.  NBC should be wary of being known for an odd brand of "awkward comedy" with P&R's evening pairing with "The Office."

Community: Excellent start, but there are multiple things that can bring about it's downfall if they aren't careful.  I am impressed that they haven't played off of Chevy Chase too much.

I'm starting to realize that my must see/must not see list is entirely composed of Fox and NBC.  I should probably see what their competitors have going on.

Bite your tongue!

I have watched the un-aired pilot and part of the first episode of Dollhouse. Judging by the fact that Echo could easily be mistaken for River Tam, I'm guessing Whedon or his casting coordinator really has a thing for under-aged, skinny brunettes.

I haven't seen Parks and Rec, but y'all should go on YouTube or Channel101 and search for Water & Power and Water & Power: Miami. They are brilliant.

Glee
Modern Family
The Office
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Psych - Mid Season Final this friday. I kinda hate that they split the season up like this but at least you don't have to wait nearly a year before it starts up again.

Re: TV in the Fall

Dollhouse was actually her project, Joss only got on board when she went to him for advice on the concept.

Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Re: TV in the Fall

I have been watching Sons of Anarchy, but I missed the second half of last season Dollhouse, so I am waiting to play catchup on it. I like what I have seen of Flashforward. Vampire Diaries is alright, and I like Fringe. Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a show I keep meaning to watch and always forget its on. What I've seen is hilarious.

Mostly I have been watching netflix dvd's of older series:

The Wire
Mad Men

I never saw them when they were on tv. I think I may end up buying the Wire box set, it is so good. I didnt have HBO while it was on, this is really great though and I'm only midway thru season 3.

Mad Men, I had only seen the first couple of episodes of before it went to the same fate as IASIP- just forgot when it was on.

I think I kinda dont mind so much missing a series and then burning through the dvd's of it.

But, but! What about the infamous "underwear scene?!???!"

Heroes: Haven't bothered since halfway through season 3.  I hear they made a lesbian couple.  I'm still not interested.

I watched the first season on DVD and was marginally interested. In the final episode of the season, the big Final Battle between the Good Guy and the Bad Guy took place as flashing lights behind a closed door and I felt cheated. I haven't watched an episode since.

Re: TV in the Fall

I was most upset about the cancellation of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. That was a really cool show with interesting questions happening behind the action concerning in what direction are they taking the characters, which ones could be trusted and so on. Plus, hot chicks with guns. I cant understand what is not to like about it, really.

Re: TV in the Fall

I haven't seen Flash Forward, but it may interest you to know that the series is based on a novel by Robert J. Sawyer, whose Neanderthal trilogy is very much worth reading. Check him out:

Echo is portrayed by Eliza Dushku, who had the original concept for Dollhouse (as user pointed out).  Dushku also portrayed Faith in the Buffy series that Whedon is originally famous for.  It was due to that relationship that Dushku requested Whedon's help.  I'm sure Whedon was reluctant since Firefly had been cut short, so he must have a pretty decent contract.

Hence, I'm inferring that Glau needs work, and is not above reaching out to old friends for favors.  Glau should be able to play a Doll with no problem, but it's sad that I think it's just going to be the same character in a different story.
