Symbol next to battery on iPhone top bar
What is the symbol just to the left of the battery strength indicator ? It looks like a phone. It appeared after installing OS 3.1.2.

It's a phone over a keyboard; it means that TTY is enabled in the Phone settings.
I've had a few friends ask me the exact same question, so you're not alone.
