Is it too early to talk about 2012?

Huckabee and Romney lead Palin in Republican poll

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Republican voters nationwide say former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is their pick to represent the GOP in the 2012 Presidential campaign. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 24% prefer former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney while 18% would cast their vote for former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 14% of the vote while Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty gets 4%. Six percent (6%) of GOP voters prefer some other candidate while 7% remain undecided.

So little love for Sarah? But she quit her job to win their love!

Look, the economy is still in the smurf, we're still in Iraq and Afghanistan, health care is going god-knows-where, the dollar is weak, civil liberties and prisoner treatment issues haven't been resolved...
The next 3-4 years will be dynamic and unpredictable. Or should be.

Anyone looking at 2012 is just looking at the horse race.

Two-year and four-year cycles are bullsmurf. If the focus is always winning the next election rather than working in the present to solve problems then what point is having elections at all?

Let's change all government terms to six years with single-term term limits. No re-election would be possible, so politicians wouldn't have to worry about reelection. There would be very few career politicians, and lobbying would become much more difficult. And everyone would get adequate time to put their policies in place and for the public to see the results thereof.

This would actually increase the power of lobbyists. Right now, career politicians are in a position to actually understand complex issues, and eventually land seats on important committees, which are critical to getting things done. If you always have "freshmen", they are going to need an education - and there are plenty of people who are willing to educate them gratis.

Seems like a good idea, but in practice, it would just mean that in addition to corrupt, we could add ignorant as well.

Of course, given that no one in Congress actually bothers to read the damn bills, I suppose you're right. Better to have a somewhat honest freshman not read the bills before voting than a corrupt, career politician not read the bills before voting.

Why do I think the only reason Huckabee is leading is because of his stupid TV show?

Seriously analyzing any American election is pointless more than a year out. In Nov 2007 it was all abut Clinton and Obama really wasn't in the discussion at all..

And just a few months ago Sanford was a leading 2012 Republican candidate, as was John Ensign.  Jon Huntsman was rumored to be interested too, but Obama dangled a carrot in his face that he couldn't say no to.

Re: Is it too early to talk about 2012?

Today, riding near the UNCW campus, we were behind a car with Palin stickers. I didn't pay it much attention. But then I noticed the plate. NC registration, and it said – "Palin012".

Who are these people???

People who want Palin to run in 2012.

Expressing one's opinion is very American. It helps guys who need to get some identify the potential air heads that are very gullible and not too swift.

She is reasonably hot, and I'm sure the sex would be amazing. At some point, though; she would probably want to talk politics, and I'm not sure the sex would make up for it. Some prices are just too high.
