So How's Everyone Doing?

According to the "Last Visited" Date it's has been over four months since I last posted.  SO... What's going on?

I can see that Bren is in full effect but what other tragedies have struck Mac|Life?

As for me, I have been unemployed for over a year now.  I am in school to get my Teacher Certification (w/ K-8 & Middle Level Mathematics Endorsements).  I will also get a Master's in Education (M.Ed.) at the same time.  I will be ready to teach in the 2011 school year.  That is correct for those of you that have done the math:  I will have been out of the workforce for three years at that point.

It is weird "not working".  I do feel rather strange about it.  Well, that and being in school!

So fill me in!  What's up with you?  Also, should I hang out more?  I use to be here daily but it... kind of... well, I don't want to say it...  I'll just be nice and simply say that I got busy.  Hell, its not like I post anywhere daily!

Re: So How's Everyone Doing?

The hard part for us i that it would be nice to get some relief in other ways.  But a lot of the programs we have found that aren't scams say that we both have to be working.

Now we are just waiting for the Gov't program for mortgages is adjusted to allow for those mortgages with PMI.

Still waiting... and waiting and waiting.

Also and unfortunately, our manageable use of Credit Cards has become slightly larger than I like (Just shy of 20k).  I guess at some point it might help to call them and say "I don't have a job" but I fear they (five creditors) might decided to ask for the entire balance.

Stil waiting.

Credit cards are unsecured. If they get snotty, mention bankruptcy. You don't have to even say you are filing, just mention you are considering it. They know that if you do pull the trigger, their money gets vaporized. Thus, they won't demand full payment up front - since that would almost instantly qualify you for a chapter 7.

They can, however; stop taking new charges, lower your limit, increase your rates, and screw you out the ying yang on fees. Believe me, banks are getting aggressive these days. I've already had to drop two cards because they wanted to jack my interest rate to nearly 30% - and I've got a solid payment history and excellent credit score. I guess they just thought I looked purty in them thar jeans or something. (one of the cards was from BoA, and I've gotten used to them trying to screw me...)

As for the mortgage, the PMI is there specifically in case you default. Thus, there is no incentive for the bank to help you at all, since they get paid either way. That's assuming the bank even kept the loan. Odds are good that your loan is spread out like a time share across God knows how many investors. Good luck with that one.

I wasn't out of of work as long as you were, but I got laid off earlier this year; and I had a lot of similar worries go through my mind. It sucks.

I joined more or less by the same time you stopped. For the most part I have been a frequent poster until my computer got smashed up. I am 16, have a cold, and I clearly have no experince with girls.

Good luck.

Re: So How's Everyone Doing?

We can verify that gd speaks whereof his knowledge is.

I've been out of work since the end of August. My Unemployment fund evidently wasn't reset by my 3 months of work. So I"m about to run into the extended unemployment funds.

And we had a minor whoop-ass in Mini-think. And I"m a moderator now. So there.

Make my day. Go on, make my freaking day.

Yeah, I do get cranky sometimes. Just ask user.

It's because they want 900 years of experience to apply for the job.  But how do you get the experience if you can't get a job in order to GET experience...

It's because many jobs that require mad skillz are now in low demand and often outsourced overseas, where believe it or not, people are just as smart as we are and pick up the mad skillz rather quickly. Only they don't need as much money.

Well, when we can't buy the products they want to sell us, they will have to start paying the others lots' more money so they can buy the same stuff. Then WE can undercut them.

Fortunately for us, developing nations characteristically pay low wages during their early, explosive growth phase; then, as most employable folks enter the workforce, cheap labor begins to dry up and wages begin to increase- supply & demand. China seems to be on the brink of that; if we're lucky, soon India will be there too- but of India I have less knowledge.

Yep. That's MY problem. I've actually been doing some contract work at the same per page rate I used to pay for outsourcing to India. But I've got no overhead working from my couch so when they feed me a chunk of work I'm usually earning $40–$60/hr. If they could keep me busy 8 hours a day every week I wouldn't have a problem smile

Re: So How's Everyone Doing?

Graduating this month.

Government jobs are SLOW to catch onto. Especially the government, I guess they don't realize that their superfluously extended interview processes means that I'm still not hired in the meantime, meaning I still must pay mounting bills with what little cash I have leftover from the year (after paying the last of tuition, plus recurring, unidentifiable "miscellaneous" fees).

Then you land a job, and still have to wait 2 weeks to get paid.

"Blame it on the economy", they say. I say it's that, plus stupid government tape (in my case).
