360 Nov update breaks memory cards

Heads up!

Are you using a cheap, hefty memory card to save content on your Xbox 360? If so, you might want to make some changes.

Quickly.

Microsoft spokesperson Major Nelson announced on his blog that "unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360" once consumers download and install the system's anticipated November update. While the move is meant to thwart piracy, it's also incited some backlash from 360 gamers.

sad I don't have any but can feel for users who do. The love/hate relationship continues.

Re: 360 Nov update breaks memory cards

I hadn't even thought about a Nov. Update since they skipped to one/year getting the NXE ready.

I don't have any such cards, but yeah. I hope the update at least brings some balancing goodness (VGA gamma, VGA gamma...)

Re: 360 Nov update breaks memory cards

People still use memory cards? Isn't that what the hard drive is for?

Re: 360 Nov update breaks memory cards

The Arcade model still lacks one as standard, tho newer ones have some built-in Flash memory for the 128MB the NXE needs. (Many devs pleaded for retention of one in all versions, but Ballmer pinched the pennies, as the $30 the original's cost even at the end made the diff between making and losing money on each one sold. Dumb in my opinion).

I've never used cards, but IIRC they're for transporting profiles, saved games and all when you sojourn to another 'Box for some splitscreen action, that sort of thing. Assuming his has a HDD, there can be only one at a time... wink

Re: 360 Nov update breaks memory cards

i was under the impression that there was a program available to Arcade owners to get a 20gb hard drive at a significantly reduced rate around the time of the NXE release. that said, i know absolutely no one on my friends list that uses third party memory cards, and only one that uses memory cards at all. we generally just carry the hds around.

Re: 360 Nov update breaks memory cards

Don't know how many they have, but Newegg shows a refurb 20GB drive for $50. Anyway, Cee, if you have a budget of 8 grand for a new MP, surely you divert a li'l into either a HDD or a $30 memory card. That or buy the Elite sooner.

You can splash out a few grand less for your MP there, then. tongue

I'm sure eBayCare is fine.
