Mass Effect 2: 1/26
BioWare has announced that Mass Effect 2 will hit North American shelves on Jan 26th, while Europe gets it 3 days later on the 29th:
Edmonton, Alberta* (October 16, 2009) – Mark your calendar and lock in your copy of Mass Effect 2 now! Leading video game developer BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that the epic Shooter/RPG Mass Effect™ 2 will be on store shelves in North America on January 26, and on January 29 in Europe. With its larger-than-life hero Commander Shepard, intense shooter action, nuanced characters and a rich storyline, the much-anticipated sequel to the original award-winning opus is one of the most anticipated titles of 2010. In support of the launch, BioWare is releasing unique Mass Effect 2 pre-order incentives* at key retailers in North America and across Europe. Codes for downloading these items will be provided to players who have pre-ordered, usable when the game is released.
“Our fans are in for a genuine thrill in the New Year with Mass Effect 2 – the second installment in the trilogy will be of amazingly high quality,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. “BioWare’s fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting this epic sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited to reward them for pre-ordering by delivering some awesome bonus content!”
In North America, pre-order bonuses* include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities. At GameStop, Terminus Gear is available with pre-orders, which includes the powerful Terminus Assault Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon:
The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.

While it is a very basic story and plot...I think I might just pre-order or buy on opening week
Course I say this now but you know I might change my mind in a few months.

Assassin's Creed 2 also has exclusive content for pre-orders at Gamestop.
If I wasn't so poor I would probably do it.

Think right now i'd rather pre-order L4D2. AC for me was kind of the game i'd play once, go ooo and ahh, then beat it and never play it again because of the tedious parts in it

The next one looks a lot better in that respect...

From what I've read, at least they're trying. They're aware of the first's shortcomings.

Well getting the flags were the part I loathed. Didn't even finish them all either. But getting the perches and such weren't too bad. It did give you neat things to do. Then I also hated having to pick pocket to restock my throwing weapons all the time. You'd think an assassin's guild would have had some kind of knife vendor.

Re: Mass Effect 2: 1/26
the limited mission types in AC was a big let down, but the gameplay was fun.
mass effect had similar issues with the small side quests all feeling very similar and turining into hours of grinding. that said, i found the main campaign to be amazing and the conversation system destroys any other rpg i've ever played, to the point where i'm frustrated and bored with Fallout 3's simple conversation system.
i dig that you can upload your character to Mass Effect 2 for story reasons, but i wish it would take your already leveled up skills too. i've always wanted an rpg series to refrain from gimping the character at the beginning of each new game with lame plot devices like "oh, he lost his magic sword!"

Re: Mass Effect 2: 1/26
Heh, I bought a Mass Effect guide in a clearance sale just to figure out all the side stories. There are some which happen at odd times and others which won't happen unless you have a certain character with you. You can't even go back later and see them with that character. This kinda annoyed me cause theres no real warning about any of them. Then the dropship onto the planets was cool for about 10 mins. Then it just got tedious roaming around trying to find things with some items in terrible spots to reach.

Yeah, that got irritating really fast.
I got the rover absolutely stuck in jagged terrain more than once, and had to start saving often when down on the surface.
They've supposedly hand-crafted all of the landing areas this time around, so hopefully it will be more like driving around on the main quest planets, but more open.
