Re: Drag queens invade hillbilly heartland
No, I disagree. They are basing their decisions upon moral. You can be morals, yet unethical. I know lots of people in business like that.
You can be ethical, and not considered moral because you don't subscribe or follow the teachings of a religion.
Ethically they have a responsibility to accept the drag queens. Morally, they abjure them.

As a political tactic I don't think having a drag show in a religiously conservative area does anything to promote gay rights or anything else for that matter.

It is a little like the National Socialist Party of America parading in through Skokie, Illinois.

Why do you hate Illinois Nazis? They're such great comic foils.

I think they are doing it there specifically to instigate a reaction.
Another reason the "but the cancer cause" argument is bunk.

I would have to agree, and add that the tactic is working wonderfully. They are getting the media coverage they need, after all. Posting friendly notes about tolerance around town just doesn't seem to get the job done.
It also annoys groups of religious conservatives, too. I can't say that this was among their intentions, but it's most certainly among their results. I can't see that being considered "collateral damage."

Right - and since they are getting what they wanted, I have trouble feeling any sympathy for them.
Two kids from my old church wore shirts with bible verses about homosexuality on them to school and were told to change their shirts and suspended when they didn't.
They tried to complain about first amendment, and failed to get anyone to champion their cause.
Even the church pastor said what they did was wrong.
They wore those shirts specifically looking for a confrontation. They got what they were looking for, no sympathy from me.
