oh, what a beautiful Morrrrrrrning...
hey, my poor "little blue" Imac g3 400mh was limping along.. just.
I scrapped a dual quicksilver that had an intermittent power issue that made me nuts and pulled a gig of ram out of it and guess what - it fit the "little blue". So I slapped tiger on it..
and THEN i found out that it has a video out connector buried under the vent that I had never noticed before (I know, I know).
So, basic googling suggests that I can mirror the crt, which is good because I think it's getting smaller.. but, if I do.. apparently I can somehow disconnect the interior crt so it isn't "on" all the time.
Is this a difficult process? Are there clear instructions anywhere?
Can I also disconnect the power to it so it doesn't use so much juice and stays way cooler?
Any help will be appreciated.
oh, and is there, or is there NOT a way to increase the speed of this machine or is it stuck forever at 400 (opinions seem to vary on this issue) - which is certainly OK, but I'm on this upgrade kick.
thanks folks

First, check with Accelerate Your Mac which has been a de facto clearinghouse on all things on Mac hacking for a long time. I found at Accelerate Your Mac that there was this G3-to-G4 iMac upgrade which may or may not work in your model. The company that made them is no longer in the business of making such CPU upgrades so at best you'll have to hunt one down via eBay or craigslist or such.
I'm not sure if there is anything on connecting an external monitor to that video port or disconnecting the power to the CRT, but take a look around.

Those were for the Original iMacs only, Rev A to D. I had a different on in my Rev D that took me to a G3/500 and added a firewire port.
