Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

Forget the lack of tethering capabilities. Forget the fact that you can't use landscape mode to type reviews in the App Store. Forget even the fact that it's not Flash capable.

WHERE THE FLUB IS MY APPLE STARTUP TONE?!

Ahem. Yes. Even after half a year of use it's still disappointing everytime it starts up. sad

Agree? Disagree?

Re: Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

It's a minor thing. You shouldn't have to restart it often. Then again, the same could be said of a Mac.

I'd rather them work to make it a decent phone. It's good for just about everything except making calls. Even on the rare occasion I get a decent ATT signal, the call quality is horrible. It constantly cuts in and out and I can barely hear the other person even if I crank up the volume. Hearing the other person can be a challenge as well. My crappy RAZR on Sprint sounded much better.

I'd be OK with them adding Flash, but only if Adobe busts ass to make it less of a resource hog and less bloated.

Re: Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

Calls are clear from mine and I'm in Boise, ID. It is a bit quieter than other iPhones, with my Defender case and all.

Really, tho, startup tone. sad

Re: Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

I still tether the $hit out of my iPhone, and I'd prefer no startup tone. I like phones that are quiet when they are doing lame things like being turned on or off. AT&T gives me pretty good signal, but I live in a huge city. I'd rather have an unlocked iPhone.

Re: Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

I think it depends on your area. Service in the Bay Area tends to suck as there are a lot of iPhones here. The network just can't handle the strain. ATT is trying, but can't really keep up. When our contract is over, I think I might seriously consider an Android device on either VZW or Sprint.

Major events are a big problem. I couldn't access anything on Halloween. The other day my partner sent me a SMS that took an hour to arrive over the network. It doesn't help that visual voicemail only works over the cellular network (no WiFi), making the iPhone a real data hog. I think it's a combination of poor design on Apple's part and ATT vastly underestimating the popularity of the iPhone. Apple makes great computers, but their expertise isn't in making good phones.

Re: Apple's #1 Mistake With the iPhone

Apple can and should make the calendar app much more robust with features but for some reason refuse to do so. Would it be so difficult to allow unfinished events to be floated to the next day as opposed to repeated? If so (it is so hard), then all Apple has to do is let 3rd party apps integrade with iCal so that these apps can sync directly to iCal (or Touch/iPhone). As it stands now, one must 1st sync your Touch to iCal, then to google, then back to the alternative calendar app from google. This is messy enough, not to mention it completely does not work for me at all meaning my iCal never get transfered to google. The only thing that makes it is my two alarmed events (to pick up my son Wed/Thurs) which gets e-mailed to me annoyingly enough on these days. But I look at my google calendar and it is blank (besides these two reminders). I've tried everything to make this work and it just doesn't (for me). Palm allowed this to happen with the best calendar app I've ever used - dateBK. An app like this is much needed.
