Left 4 Dead 2

My L4D2 server is up running at the moment... probably the only good thing about the L4D2 demo delays. It's also linked to the M|LF steam group, so we have a dedicated server to use tonight!

Levi was on the 360 demo for an hour last night. Don't think he intends to get the PC version, esp. since it'd also likely mean a second copy for Jr.

Yeah got the demo early as a bonus for preordering with Gamestop.

OMG!!!!!!

In hind sight it would've been great if Valve had held off a year, released one L4D in different cities, 8 mix and match survivors and all the maps. Two seems to be so much more polished. Now THAT would've been a L4D game.

No PC play here for now. Can't afford to keep up with 360s AND PCs. Jr's PC is my old one. 3.2P4, Gig ram and a AGP 800XT. Great for HL2, UT2004 but not so much the modern stuff.

Oh while picking up the demo I got Jr his own ODST. Pros: No moar split screen. Cons: Damn this is getting expensive.

Yeah, L4D2 is so much more polished compared to L4D. I want the full game now sad

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Well the PC versions of L4D do look better than 360. You also could run it on a X800. Its really not that complex of a game. Whatever HL2 will run on, it will run on too for the most part.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Well, I can see why it was banned in Australia. But it is nothing more than what i've seen in Soldier of Fortune games. The zombies now have destructable zones similar to SoF. When you blast a certain part of a zombie, sometimes you get to see whats inside. Bit more bloody in this aspect but if you've played SoF, it is nothing new. In fact, it looks like they may have used the same tech.

What Levi has stated is correct. It is more polished. However, I think the new special infected are rather weak. The charger is useless out in the open and even then, his hp is low. The spitter is more or less pointless unless you've got the survivors covered in boomer bile. Then finally I see almost no point in the jockey. I get the idea behind it but his hp is so low that unless you use him when a horde hits or boomer booms...solo hes useless. Haven't seen the others yet but I hope some things get buffed cause even in Expert mode, they are easy to kill.

In fact, with the melee weapons, expert mode is a breeze. The machete is just loads of fun hacking everything up. The more blunt objects are just meh so far. The frying pan makes a nice sound but its no where near as fun as the machete.

Think its gonna be worth the money in the end. Its going to be a great COOP game. Right up Bat's alley. VS i'll wait and see on as the new SIs are weak. With current 4 vs 4 setup, if you had more than one of the new SIs the survivors would run you through real easy. But we'll see.

Oh performance is good. Ran max everything before in L4D1 and its going good too in L4D2. Even took time to swap back in the 8800GTS and compare. But I couldn't tell the difference. Both the 88 and the 3870 handled it fine. But I will say, I ran the Street Fighter IV benchmark while I was at it. 3870 kicked the 8800's butt. 8314 to 7920 rating. Wonder if SFIV is DX10.1 aware shrug. 88's fps dropped below 30 in high effects moments and in the last character flyby while the 38 hugged close to 60.

Yeah I agree but...

Smokers and Hunters are not all that strong either and to me the specials seem to appear more often now that there's more of them. Now it feels like there's a special around every corner, just lurking, waiting to bounce.

Yeah true. I have seen more of them in spots. It also is a nice touch to see they have male and female boomers. Now you can be grossed out by walking bags of bile from both sexes! Equality is a good thing! big_smile

Cool, got to try it today. Really nice stuff, I like the characterization a little more than in lfd1.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Yes it is out. I've played it. You're well behind the curve. It's a 3 map campaign or solo game of "The Parish" campaign. The stopping point is obviously about half-way through the complete campaign. You'll enjoy playing in the daylight.

The other thing I noticed is that the zombies are much more aggressive. I've been attacked in the initial spawn area twice now out of 5 games. Once when we had just grabbed our weapons, and once as we were grabbing weapons. Very dicey. There are two nice new assault weapons, the AK-47 and another smaller caliber weapon. The smaller assault rifle has a 3 burst governor on its auto fire.

Nothing like running through a horde with a chainsaw. Fun times!

I also like some of the new items like the Boomer bile. Just toss it onto a Tank and have the zombies help you take him down!

Still haven't found a chainsaw. However, I do love the AK. It has penetration power. I can take out 2 or 3 zombies with one shot. big_smile

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Well difference in caliber on the AK too. 7.62mm vs 5.56mm. I tend to take the AK more often and it really tears the zombies up. Course the 5.56s do it pretty well too but the AK does appear to have that penetration that the others lack. But I will admit, if I have to go 5.56 i'll use the 3 round burst rifle more often than the M-16. They both tear up but the burst I find conserves my ammo a little better.

Chainsaws are variable. I didn't get one till I was on Dark Carnival. Didn't see one at all in Dead Center. Course now replaying them, i've seen it in all of the campaigns. Same with the grenade launcher. Its the AI Director thing that mixes it up. Sometimes i've had 2 nade launchers in one level. Shame the bots won't use it.

Bots with explosives tend to be pretty dicey. They're likely to blow themselves up (and you) as well.

Scored a grenade launcher on the Dark Carnival finale last night - very useful against those tanks! big_smile

I don't go for the chainsaws much, I prefer the katana. Very satisfying blood spray.

Re: Left 4 Dead 2

Well theres funny emotes on both of those melee if you use Ellis. If you saw enough zombies he sorta goes into a frenzy. Then at times he'll make comments about the sword when you pick it up.

Btw, anyone know where Bat is? Thought I heard his net went out or something?
