Re: Apple Releases Magic Mouse
Apple should do away with the random whiteness they throw at you with certain products. That mouse should look aluminum with a white Apple logo. Same with the AEBS, the rest of their cords, etc.

BLACK Apple logo. It's black on the iMac. Grey on the mini.
The mini should have a grey/metallic or black top.
And yes, black or grey (not light) cables.
White is over.
Oh yeah. Black or even different colors for iPod/iPhone earphones, no more white. Also, in ear headphones for everybody. Kill the crappy earbuds.

Re: Apple Releases Magic Mouse
I agree on the lameness of whiteness. The new MacBooks look like suck Fisher-Price toys being white, and nothing stays white after months of use. Their problem is that the whiteness advertises their brand. They have to decide on a new way to stand out while getting off the white kick. My iPhone 3GS is barely 4 months old and the earbuds it came with are completely falling apart and no longer white. They could start with making all their white products the color that everything turns into after some use, grey with accents of darker grey-to-black.

I wish my black macbook was gloss. Not sure how that pertains to anything however.

I agree about the white. Beside being a bit done, white becomes yellow with age, which is not so nice.
I have seen several of Minis with beige / yellow top plates, and I don't want my mouse to be like that in a few years. And I reiterrate it should have been a matt top layer. If the bluetooth was an issue, the bottom part could have been plastic. Other thing: The two rails aren't very elegant, IMO a circle segment in the front and the back could have been slicker. (still a very sexy mouse of course)

My white VAIO has been mistaken for a Mac.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Odd. I have the second incarnation of Mini (Intel Core Solo), and it's just as white as it ever was. The only cosmetic damage to it is scratches along the bottom where I did a bad job of opening it in order to max out its RAM, and then opening it again so I could reconnect the temp sensor that I had left loose by accident. Mind you, it's not perfect, but it's still very much white, and not yellow at all.
Were these Mini's in the homes of smokers? Poorly ventilated areas? In direct sunlight?
There's what you love to do, and then there's what you get paid to do. Those two things are often different.

Re: Apple Releases Magic Mouse
Using the Magic mouse right now, on the new iMac. Compared exclusively to the Mighty Mouse, it's a huge improvement. The silver metal bottom half is a nice touch, and its weight is an advantageous design compared to the older "Apple Mouse"; the lower center of gravity makes moving the mouse more sure, and the window scrolling responding just like the iPhone an iPod, mimicking inertia characteristics, is quite elegant. And the new KB, being wired and full size, is such a huge improvement in space and energy efficiency(meaning less energy spent on having to type with the short flat keys that are also pretty quiet). The Magic Mouse compared to the idealism of the answer to mousing, it's not revolutionary, but very cool if you like standard mousing and not trackballing.
To add to the plus side, the laser tracking technology is far superior. It no longer uses a visible red laser. It really does work on any surface, as long as it is relatively even, not like a tiled surface with grooves for grout, or a huge piece of melba toast.

Having used it a bit more, I can say that it really doesn't slide very well, neither against the finger, nor against the booklet I use as a mouse mat right now. I staring to have a cramp in my finger.
Also, it's really quite heavy compared the the wired "laptop" mouse I used before.
A rechargeable li-ion battery pack would have been much lighter.
I really have to work to like it. I hope I will in the end.

Re: Apple Releases Magic Mouse
I wonder how much lighter they will make the wired version. I agree the plastic top that is the multi-touch surface is not good for sliding if you have any noticeable dampness to your fingertips. Should have been more like the trackpad materials.

does it work with X11? The Apple store didn't even have xclock.
