New iPod Touch
I got back from the Apple store, I got a few games for my return to Saudi. I also broke down and got a new shiny iPod Touch.
So I plugged into my iBook, and went to authorize it. I came up against the five-computer limit. OK, those other computers have gone God knows where. How do I de-authorize them?
Or if I am screwed (in that I ought to have done something on the old computers before they went away), how ought I to proceed to preserve what I can from my iTunes library?

Re: New iPod Touch
you can reset all of the authorized machines (once a year I believe) you do it in the itunes store ... account maybe ... I am not at a computer I can get to the itunes store.
You will have to re-authorize you computers afterward.

OK, Iam going to need a little more of a step-by-step approach.
"Deauthorize Audible account" looks wrong.
"Deauthorize Computer" gives me a Very Scary Warning.

Re: New iPod Touch
itunes store : click your account name (or account) : "Deauthorize All" button
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact the iTunes Store support via email

Re: New iPod Touch
Is the problem I am over on computers? I bet I am over on iPods, having broken or lost them. Does that make a difference?

Re: New iPod Touch
OK, I think I figured it out.
1. Plug in old iPod (I am over five on iPods)
2. Update said iPod.
3. "Deauthorize computer" which i hope means de-authorize old iPod"
----
Oops!
I hit a snag, when I proceed as above I get a message;
"This computer was not authorized. To authorize this computer, play a song or video purchased with this account."
So I play a Lewis Black track I bought from the store and try to de-authorize, but get the same error message. (Remember, this is with the old iPod plugged in.) (Ought I to plug in the new one?)

Re: New iPod Touch
I barely know what I am doing, but I think I have done it.
I plugged in the new iPod Touch and it is syncing fine. This puzzles me as I do not seem to have de-authorized the old iPod, but all is well that ends well
Thank you

Re: New iPod Touch
You don't have to de-authorize iPods - you can slave as many iPods to a single computer as you care to buy.

Re: New iPod Touch
Yeah, you just need to deauthorize all your machines like they said and start anew. Unless you already did this once this year. Then you are screwed and need to talk to Apple directly.

Re: New iPod Touch
I have to do it once a year in general due to several machines, + update glitches + friends and family and so on. The next date is one year from reset, so better just get it done.

Re: New iPod Touch
I think I am screwed. I have tried to purchase a few aps, but have been told I have reached the five-computer limit.
I go to iTune Store> Authorize Computer, but it tells me to de-authorize a computer.
I go to iTunes Store>deauthorize computer, but I can't since this computer has never been authorized.
Help! I need to get this sorted out before I fly!

HAVE YOU DONE THIS YET?

itunes store : click your account name (or account) : "Deauthorize All" button
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact the iTunes Store support via email
To deauthorize all computers associated with your account
If you find you have reached 5 authorizations, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen.
Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact the iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/).
IF YOU FOLLOW THAT IT WILL BE FIXED. IF "Deauthorize All" ISN'T AN OPTION CALL APPLE.
