Re: Texas Army Base Shooting...by a shrink

I think it's another case of dis-gruntled depressed employee shooting up place of employ.
Given current economy with record unemployment, I fear we are going to see more of this type of thing.

Actually, it seems more like he was upset that he couldn't be unemployed as soon as he'd like.

You just have to put him in a slot, don't you.

He had two options, refuse to serve, and accept court-martial, or execute his orders.

He chose an option not sanctioned by any civilized society.

If he really didn't want to witness the potential horrors of a deployment overseas, the best thing to do would be... bring it to us here?

We don't know why he did it, regardless of what talking heads may theorize about religious motivation, stress, mental disorder, etc.

Let me explain something to you.

When economy is bad and unemployment is high, there is general gloom and sense of depression amongst the general population.

You can even see it here at minithink where the jerk to content ratio has gone up.

Maybe too much shouldn't be made of the Major's foreigness. A shooting spree seems more like a way to fit in. There was another shooting spree on or around the same day in another part of the country.

On the subject of dangerous muslims etc, perhaps foreigners with beards and accents might be included; they seem muslim-ish at any rate.

Seems to indicate more towards Muslim extremism, but I still hope it was "just" a madman snapping.

Whether or not he was an extremist, this smurf will probably make life even harder for Muslim soldiers in the U.S military.

In today's paper there was a letter saying that Hasan wasn't a soldier but a Muslim pretending to be a soldier.

At the Muslim Community Centre in the Washington suburb of Silver Spring he signed up for an Islamic matchmaking service, specifying that he wanted a bride who wore the hijab and prayed five times a day.

That has a bit more credibility than some crackpot letter to the editor.

He did go postal, just in a jihadish sort of way?

The point is that the statement "he was not a soldier, but a Muslim" indicates that the two are mutually exclusive.

Letter to a paper is expression of opinion of one individual.
There probably are others with that POV - but it's not anything to get twisted over, papers like to printers letters showing uncommon perspectives.

He's been officially charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder. How does the military carry out executions these days?
