so it does come down to who you know
Ok I got laid off back in June and it sucks. Have been sending out dozens and dozens of resumes with no luck of course. Then about two weeks ago I get a call on a Sunday night from a company asking me to come in for an interview. During the interview I find out that they received over 800 resumes for he position. Thats why he called me on a Sunday night. it was the only time he had to look at resumes. Not that he looked at all of them . He told me he had someone cut it down to 100 and then he cut that down to about 8 people that he was calling. Well sadly I didn't get that job. Now I was looking today and saw a position with a company who's name I recognized. They had actually sent overflow work to my last job and I was the one who did the work. So I send my resume but then shoot an email off to my old boss asking if he knew anyone there and could put in a word for me. Get an email back saying he called the guy he know and was told to have me call ASAP. Of course I call and an hour later I am in an interview. Three hours later I get a call with the formal job offer. So I am no longer a drain on society and am back in the ranks of the employed.

Congratulations on your recent employment. Also remember that it is much better to be a drain on society than to be the drain of society.
There's what you love to do, and then there's what you get paid to do. Those two things are often different.

Well alright! I think you were probably over-due for something to smile about.
Just out of curiosity, where does the restaurant work fit into this story?

Regarding restaurant work: If I never have to have another conversation with another idiot about how he wants his steak prepared, it will be too soon.

Congrats!
And yes, it always helps to know someone. Buy your old boss a beer with your first paycheck.

Never say never. Actually my last boss was the one who lit a match first. He did me a favor because I was tired of how he treated me and the customers.

Hey Bren, please have my steak cooked this way:
Punch the cook in the face.
Amen.

Sixteen posts to go from a career update to gay fish. Better, but we still do really need to work on our post counts. Shoot, back in the day, I could have easily gone from a career update to gay fish in half a post!
