The EU and US just can't stop Canada
The EU banned seal products. The US Senate passed a resolution asking for an end to the slaughter.
Meanwhile, cruel barbarians in Canada are playing "club a seal" with seals that haven't even eaten their first solid food meal. I don't know why the fur industry worldwide just can't stop the slaughter.

I wonder what happened to my colleagues who voted with me as I opposed every war supplemental request under the previous administration. It seems, with very few exceptions, they have changed their position on the war now that the White House has changed hands.--Ron Paul

Re: The EU and US just can't stop Canada
nice link to the brainwashed youth of PETA2.
what happened to peta1? proven they killed so many animals on their own that they have decided to give it up and use the youth group angle to go active?
besides, some of us really like the look and feel of real fur.
and everyone knows a senate resolution is a joke.. they know there is too much money in it also to try to make a law of it.

If you had to put up with neighbours like we have you'd go out and club helpless baby animals too.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

Seal Cub Clubbing Club.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

This thread is non-sensical. There are many, many more offences against nature to go after (e.g. Monsanto!) than seal hunters.

Good point, but Monsanto is a US company and I'm in the mood to harass Canadians. The most immoral Canadian company that springs to mind is Cirque du Soleil.

Please try harder than "there are problems that aren't the problem you named, why care about the problem you named".

Okay, how about Harp seals are not an endangered species and a substantial amount of hunting is done by the First Nations people residing in the Nunavut territories or heavily regulated marine harvesters (who are also often First Nations people). Unlike other hunting industries (see: Japanese whaling, Chinese and sharks) very little of the animal is wasted. Moreover, also unlike other industries, the Canadian Seal Hunting industry is regulated by the Royal Commission of Seals and Sealing in Canada with oversight from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).
I also find the PETA 2 and latest wave of anti-seal hunting campaigns highly unsavoury; it reeks of Occidental demonisation of the Other, especially due to the animal in question being a Charismatic Animal.
Witness the report by the WWF in 2005 with respect to sealing in Canada:
"Perception of the seal hunt seems to be based largely on emotion, and on visual images that are often difficult even for experienced observers to interpret with certainty. While a hakapik strike on the skull of a seal appears brutal, it is humane if it achieves rapid, irreversible loss of consciousness leading to death"
In short, I reiterate that this is non-sensical.

Re: The EU and US just can't stop Canada
A large fraction of the animals on Earth are endangered, or will be within the next decade.
Seals are not one of them. They are common as stink. Hundreds of millions of cows, pigs, chickens and other animals are kept in pens in hideous conditions. Hunting of extremely rare mammals like the great apes, elephants and rhinos is driving them to extinction.
Baby seals are cute. This is the sole reason for people caring about this at all, its preposterous.
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.

I really can't seem to manage any outrage over a group of hardworking men in a dangerous profession trying to provide for their families through an ecologically sound hunt just because the animals they're hunting are cute when they're babies.
