Re: Changing username doesn't work :

that is what its meant to do... now i just have to fiind a way to get a less conspicious way to point to that....

an internet browser is one of the best ways to browse your hard drive.... easy access to pictures, movies, sounds... without having to open any external applications...

No, the terminal is the best way to browse your hard drive wink

You know you can just type "file://localhost/" into the URL field and it will work, right? No need to clutter the forums with it tongue Or you can drag a folder you want to browse onto the browser window.. Or you could just use the finder for its intended use wink

how inept do you think i am?
jeezus.....
i have it in a bookmark on my desktop.
and the terminal will not view mp3s or movies or pictures.... so it is in effect useless for what i am trying to accomplish. /shakes head/ some people........

i am trying to clear my hard drive of excess crap that is installed by programs i no longer use..... i have found no easy way of doing this within the finder and some of the stuff on my hard drive is stuff i want to keep... the only reason i posted it here was because i was checking if the forums would automagicly add the "http://" to it, as most forwarding services will.

as the forums did not, the test was successfull.  roll  roll

the finder is not helpfull when you want to find invisible files. sherlock is not helpfull if you do not know anything about the file you are trying to find.... and a browser is the best way for me to accomplish what i am doing. (keep in mind that the hard drive i am trying to clean is over 5 years old....)

hmm... i just freed about 500MB from my main hard drive ... old mp3s mostly, due to the fact that itunes3 duplicates them as soon as you play them

Re: Changing username doesn't work :

The terminal still is the best way to browse your hard drive. Try out the open command sometime... Just because you don't know how to use a tool doesn't make it useless.

How inept should I think you are? I made no assumptions or judgements roll. Using a web browser to browse your local files seems a bit silly to me though, especially considering how slow a lot of mac browsers are...

And I still think there was no reason to clutter up the forums with your 'test'... tongue

Same problem for me. I can't change my UserName. I think I'll post in "Forum Suggestions" since this seems to be a more general problem.

admins can change it.. I'd say they don't really want us to be able to easily change our usernames. You can try posting it though smile
