JKII chatacters in the expanded universe novels

Anyone else see the mention of Kyle Katarn in the latest New Jedi Order novel (those are the best books ever big_smile big_smile big_smile big_smile.... well, except for  the slaughter happy "lets kill off all the best characters" attitude of the hardcover novels cry ) Force Heretic I:  Remnant(Feb, 2003)??

If you didnt, check out the first paragraph on page 21

(Luke thinking, skipping some of the paragraph as to not give away too many spoilers: )
The door to the chamber opened, and Luke turned to see Kenth Hamner step into the room. Luke nodded his acknowledgment, hiding his dissappointment that it wasnt Jaina. His niece was running late for the meeting, and he couldn't help but feel worried. ..... He wouldn't blame himself for loving, or call it a weakness,  but he would blame himself for not meeting his duty of care. Aside fron Jaina, too many Jedi were missing from this meeting: Tam Azur- Jamin, Octa Ramis, Kyle Katarn, Tenel Ka, Tahiri Velia.... If they were dead, he would feel as if he blamed each and every one of them.

This is a really good series, but one of the problems is that the books are coming out every few months (the most recent one was Destinys Way, Nov 2002) so you forget a lot of the little details. I got JKII in late Dec/Early Jan(I wasnt particularily obssessed with the game before then, but I was intrested wink ), so it was a while after I had read the last book, and I cant specifically remember much mention of Kyle, but I bet that he was there somewhere (and I hope not in one of the ebooks, because I didnt buy any of those). Ill go skimming though my other NJO books looking for his name, but thats quite a few books wink.

Anyways, Just thought Id mention that in case anyone cares big_smile
(if anyone else has read those books(and i dont mean just reading the first one and stopping tongue), you have no idea how happy that would make me)

Anyone else see any mention of any of the characters (no, Not Luke Skywalker tongue) in any of the books/comics/etc? Fan fiction even? Anyone written a fanfic on someone in JKII? I considered doing it for the story line of the game, but I dont have THAT much time.... yet wink

*hangs head in nerdy shame* blush  wink

yeah,  ive read every single SW book ever, with a few small exceptions, and i DID notice Kyle's name in the most recent book. i think its kinda wierd though. i just dont really like it, seeing as how hes a completely contrived character with no attachment to the movies or anything. but thats just me  wink.

i do like all the new books, except i can only read them once, instead of the many times ive read all the rest. dunno why. and i dont like the "kill all the good characters" hardcover books either. cant wait for the next book though. any idea when its due out?

btw: dont bother skimming the other books for his name. hes not in em. trust me wink

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER NERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UBER WOOT ^ 9 big_smile

I know the last one is due out in november, next one is may if memory serves correctly.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, in jr high i read all the star wars books we have at my library, I havent read all of them though sad *hangs her head in the REAL shame cry * Still need to get my hands on the second half of the jedi apprentice series, a couple of the prequil trillogy era books, half of the young jedi knight books (most of the books i havent read are the kiddie books neutral not that they arent good, just that with so many of them out, i wont buy them new, and its a bit harder to find them), and a couple random other star wars books, but im working on fixing that wink
Im also a looser because I only have about 50 of the books, but im getting new (and by new i mean used) ones all the time wink

there are seriously soooo many that i just want to go back and read again, like
-ohhhh, anakin in the corellian trillogy, hes sooooo cool big_smile big_smile big_smile anakin roxors big_smile
-the tales books are so good, first one i read was mos eisley, i wasnt expecting it to be that good, but i LOVED it big_smile
-the darth maul book had a supurisingly "romeo and juillet" ending, supurising for a book named darth maul: shadow hunter wink
-uh, anything by zahn just roxors, but its so funny going back and reading when mara hated luke  lol  lol
-the movie books, give you a lot of info on what lucas wanted to put in the movie, but couldnt for various reasons and other cool stuff.
-should probably re read the x wing books, wasnt too fond of them before, but now that i know more about a lot of the characters from the NJO books.

man, i cant wait till its summer so i can immerse myself in star wars again big_smile

what did you think of the last hard cover novel and the death stuff in that? it was.. intresting, i wasnt exactly expecting it, but it sure wasnt star by star, or vector prime, thats for sure  big_smile

seriously though, you have no idea how happy it makes me knowing that you are a star wars nerd too big_smile
ok, and uh... back on topic big_smile... yea, i didnt remmber seeing Kyles name before (darn you for ruining a good excuse to go reminice tongue, now i must go think of better reasons to not do my homework)

Re: JKII chatacters in the expanded universe novels

I have a bookcase full of SW books (about 30 of them), all of which I've read.
After I transitioned to highschool, I stopped reading new ones (I exhausted the library's supply and I'm too cheap to buy them).

Re: JKII chatacters in the expanded universe novels

The summer between my sophomore and junior years in high school, I bought $100 worth of Star Wars books. And so began my collection. I have all the major EU novels aside from the kiddie books and one or two from the Bounty Hunter Wars series. Also, I don't have two of the prequel era books. I also don't read the comics. I also love the New Jedi Order series. Remember, Force Heretic II: Refugee comes out May 5. My favorite EU character is Corran Horn. I've read I, Jedi at least 5 times, if not more.

Characters from the games are rarely mentioned, aside from Kyle. I think Kyle would be a good addition to the EU and is one of the better non-trilogy characters. However, there are several parts of the Jedi Knight games which are questionable because of the various story lines. In the first JK, the Valley of the Jedi was discovered and a huge Force repository found. However this is never mentioned in any of the novels and doesn't really fit. The same goes for JK II. It's never been mentioned or even hinted that a certain crystal could give non-Jedi Force powers. I really don't like the direction Lucas Arts is going for JK: JA and Knights of the Old Republic. I've seen several screen shots of Jedi using double bladed light sabers, something which has never happened in any of the novels and which I don't think would have happened.

I think JK II may be the end of the line for my Star Wars games, unless they release a new X-Wing or Tie Fighter game. Galaxies would also be cool.

The double bladed saber comes later in the game and in JK: JA you can go to the darkside. Maybe they are linked. Who knows...

check the top of page 280 in rebel stand (enemy lines II wink ). its not quite the same, but the old jedi temple was built on the wellspring of force energy there on coruscant. i seem to remember something similar mentioned in one of the prequil books, but it may have just been a fan fiction, cant remember now, brain fried from a week in hawii wink.

as for force crystals, i think in one of the jedi apprentice books (obi wan and quigon) in one of the first few books, when obi wan had his 13th birthday, and qui gon gave obi a special rock that had some force properties, but nothing like the crystals from JKII. i dont know maybe the crystal is similar to a nicotine patch or something, but it gives the holder midi chlorines instead wink tongue  lol
