Binary Code Question!:)

Hello Everybody!!
First off, Happy Holidays and have a wonderful new year!! O.k. my question is this: I heard that each letter you press on the keyboard, sends a message to the computer in binary code (0s and 1s). Is this true? And if so, where might I find a list of each letter in its binary form? I see a future of secret codes that none of my friends will understand!! smile Thank you all,
Indy

Re: Binary Code Question!:)

Well, the binary isn't exactly sent to your computer from the keyboard. More than likely, ASCII is sent to your computer. Binary can't actually represent anything but numbers. So in order for it to represent letters, those letters must have a number counterpart. This is called ASCII. For instance, a capital "A" is represented by a 65 or (from right to left) "01000001" In all actuality, there is nothing above 127 in ASCII so only 7 bits are needed. That "0" at the end is a place-holder. If you don't know how to read binary, it is quite easy. Now remember, this is from right to left, not left to right. The first digit represents 2^0, the second 2^1, and so on. If there is a 1, that means that that value is true and you add all the "trues" together. So "11111111" would be 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128 and "01111111" would be 1+2+4+8+16+32+64. Now to impress your friends, learn to count in binary on your hands! You can count to 1023 on 10 fingers (my favorite is 4 and 132 with your right thumb being the first digit). Hehe smile. Also, "decode" my sig without the help of that site (Hint: "00100000" is a space). Hoped that helped. If you have any specific questions, my email is zacw@cox.net. Feel free to email me.
