They Might Be Giants
I love the band. The only problem is, I only know two people who have even heard of them. I have every album and one single. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of them, or has any album of theirs besides "Flood".

Re: They Might Be Giants
i've heard of them.. in fact i saw them play one time. it was one of the most horrifically boring shows i've ever been to. i do like some of their songs though. but not really my cup o' tea i guess.

You'll find there's a lot of people around here who know TMBG.
I only own Flood, but have been meaning to buy Severe Tire Damage if I can ever find it below thirty bucks aussie.

Re: They Might Be Giants
They're one of my favorite bands. I've seen them many times and their live shows are just amazing. "Flood" in my opinion is one of the, if not the weakest album in their catalog. My personal favorite is "Apollo 18" but since all the albums have slightly different appeal, I can't recommend any as "the one to get." My advice: use Limewire or Acquisition or whatever your favorite song-stealing software is to sample songs from every album, then buy based on that. Alternately, their website www.tmbg.com has a lot of songs you can listen to (not download, unfortunately) and you can sample that way.

I agree, to an extent. I'd list them is almost this order.
Apollo 18 (Probably the strangest of all the albums, especially the "Fingertips")
Lincoln (For "Ana Ng" alone.)
Flood (Wasn't platinum for nothing...)
John Henry (Probably the most "Rock")
Then there's all the rest, but I won't bore you.

Re: They Might Be Giants
TMBG are great. They're quite popular on campus, they played last weekend and there were huge lines to get in.
I suppose I would have to go with Flood and John Henry as my favorite albums.

Re: They Might Be Giants
I used to be a big fan....then my brother got into them way too much and listened to "Severe Tire Damage" every day for pretty much a year. ( i kid you not) So I went to Fantastic Records (a local record store that specializes in independent and underground music) and found "20 years of They Might Be Giants" for like 28.99, It pretty much has every single one of their songs, Except for the hidden tracks on Severe Tire Damage. (this album has 53 tracks in all)
Today, I cannot really listen to them, I guess my tastes have changed quite a bit, I still think they do nice stuff but I found a new band called Karate that does this amazing Emo/Jazz thing and they pretty much dominate my iTunes Play list. (the album Unsolved is pretty much their best album, that i own at least) If you are into jazz and alternative, Karate is right up your alley.
But the 20 year cd set is the best for any TMBG fan, I must say, I think it is either a 3 or 4 cd set, so it is only like 7 bucks per cd, not bad.

I thought every nerd listened to TMBG!
That being said, I like them, but their music seems to lack just a bit. The only album I own is Factory Showroom.

This chick I dated in high school absolutely loved them. They were alright, but it lacks something... donno what... something that'll keep me coming back to it.

Re: They Might Be Giants
If you watched Tiny Toons, two of their songs were featured in their music video episodes. "Particle Man" and "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)". Both are pretty rad songs, but they're also of a fairly not recent album.

Right because the music videos you speak of were released in 94 or so. Give or take a year.
They were the "thing" at the time. My dad listened to them... I "rebelled" and would listen to Lost And Found instead.

Re: They Might Be Giants
go TMBG! they played at WPI a few years back. pretty awesome show. I don't really like their newer stuff. the old is the way to go in my opinion. Up to (and including) Severe Tire Damage I have all the albums. it was around that time that their songs got...even MORE whacked out and weird. Definitely good stuff before that though. John Henry, Apollo 18, ...holy crap! Factory Showroom.
and GAH! you like Lost and Found?! ok, so the singing is in my opinion a lot like TMBG, but even more nasal. the only songs I ever heard and liked were at a concert at Hammonassett a few years ago. their electric guitar broke or something (strings maybe?) and they went acoustic for a while...i can't believe they don't just do that all the time. it was much better.
hehe, it is a pretty funny concept that you rebelled by listening to a christian easy rock band.
in closing, i wish TMBG would come back to WPI next year. that'd be nice.
