Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

The good news is that I have heard rumors that a true Apple Store is coming to Lenexa! big_smile (that's in the greater KC metro area for y'all living on the coasts) big_smile The rumor comes from a CompUSA employee who heard it from an Apple rep. tongue I have not been able to offically confirm this; although I'm finding that others have heard the same rumor. I'm pretty psyched about that! I spent the weekend trying to either find a new AC power adapter for our iBook or repair the old one. An Apple Store would have saved me much angst!

Anyone heard anything official about this or know how to confirm it? Nothing on Apple's site (at least nothing that I could find).

big_smile DEFINATELY! There seems to be quite a few KC-area folks around here on the MA Forums. We could make the Chiefs and Royals fans jealous by "tail-gateing" in the parking lot several hours before "game time!" big_smile

I'm in Olathe. I generally hit the Apple dept at MicroCenter; I HATE CompUSA! I thought I put my location in my Profile. I'll have to double check that.

edit my illiterate grammer.

I've been surfing for more info and have come up empty. Apple's May 20th press release specified Tokyo and Chicago, but no mention of KC although it does say that 20 new stores are planned. Maybe KC is among them?

Oh, not to get too far off topic, but have you ever attended any of the MacCORE MUG meetings? I've been meaning to for several years but never seem to get around to it. They were written up on Apples MUG page.

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

greetings and salutations fellows.

i live in OP and an apple store would be pretty cool, but why don't you guys just hang out at MacHardware?

seriously, it's just like an apple store, but it's an authorized reseller.

located in mission, just off johnson drive (on martway).

go in anytime, play on all the new machines, all hooked up to the internet and with all kinds of custom audio setups. i'm in there like once a month just to play around on everything.

I don't care for that place. While it may be ok to hang out at. I will not recommend  anyone bring there computer to get fixed there.

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

Wow, this is creepy. A lot of Kansas/Missouri people here!  eek

I live in "Hooterville" (it's in the KC area, just my nickname for this particular town) and yes, I would be DELIGHTED to have an Apple Store in the area!

I'm from Glendale California (born and raised), and moved to Hooterville a few years ago. It reallly griped me that one of the first Apple Stores was in the Glendale Galleria, which was one of my favorite haunts when I was in Glendale. Well, I did drop by the store when I last visted L.A. It was nifty. A store here as well would be exceedingly nifty! I so hope it's true!

edit: I was just in the Microcenter today, as a matter of fact. I bought a KVM device so I could share a montior between my G4 and a PC. (I upgraded my PC--need it for an important class.) The Apple section of Microcenter seemed kind of sparse, so I asked the salesguy in the Apple section if that "meant" anything. (As in, was it a bad thing?) He assured me that no, it wasn't bad, it just meant that Apple was slow in sending new stuff out. He said that they've renewed their contract with Apple (or is it Microcenter) for another year. Renewed it with someone, anyway.

The two CompUSAs (the one in Overland Park and the one in Independence) are not very fun. The salespeople scurry away, in an earnest attempt to avoid contact with customers. Still, they are better than nothing, I suppose.

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

I'm curious about machardware too.

I need to get my G4 (Digital Audio) upgraded and of course I am too much of a coward to do it myself. (I can do RAM upgrades; that's just about it.) Which shop would you recommend? I was just going to go to Microcenter, they put in new HDDs for both my G4s last year, and did OK.

This time I think I need my 40 GB drive removed (it's starting to make funky sounds) and a 120 GB put in its stead. (I already have a 120 GB drive, so this will make two 120 GB drives!) I also want a decent AGP video card; this 16 MB one that came with the Mac is dragging me down. And lastly, I want my CD-ROM fixed, it's busted. I thought I'd splurge and get a DVD drive. (I've already got two external firewire CD-RW drives.)

So, pardon the hijack, but I can't resist the opportunity to ask some local Macheads--which is the best place to go to get all this work done?

um...
i mean, i don't work for them or anything, but i think MacHardware would do the best job at the best price.

if you want, i could call lionel and tell him that you are coming in with yer rig and he could give you some VIP action on those upgrades.

Well heck, I thought all the Mac-only stores bellied up in KC!! I now that there used to be a Mac store near the SW corner of the I435 loop (MacWorks?), but they closed. MacSource on SW Blvd. closed. There's that place in downtown KC on main, but that's so inconvient that I've never been there (actally I thought they were called Mac Hardware). This weekend I went on a desparate search for a new AC adapter for an iBook and couldn't find anyone in the KC area that had one instock. I looked through the Yellow Pages searching for a Mac store but couldn't find one. Opps. Just looked again and see the Mac Hardware on Main; one little line that I overlooked!  blush I finally bought a third party adapter from the MacResQ warehouse in Olathe (open M-F).

My gripes are minor. I brought an older iMac(333) in there to get looked at. They said my logic board needed to be replaced, but it seems once I stuck a new HD in it worked just fine. My brother brought his powerbook there. They had his computer for a week or two and did nothing or couldn't figure out what was wrong. I'm still not sure what was wrong with that powerbook  but we never could reinstall an OS on it without getting an error.

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

Great to see you all!

Had no idea there were so many MacHeads hanging around here! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Apple Store. My brother and I figured that if we were going to get one it would land up in the new Zona Rosa project up in the horrid Barry Rd. and I-29 section of town. Not that its a horrid area, just the traffic is.

I've driven by the Mac Hardware store almost every morning I go to work and I keep thinking that I need to stop in there and check it out. Guess I will really have to do it now!

Anyway, kudos to Apple if this really does happen!

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

Hey hey, I used to be an OP resident before I headed down to Tulsa where I'm in college at the moment (summer school and all). Man, that just figures that they'd open a store up there once I'm gone. I hope they do though, it would be mighty sweet!

Next they need one in Tulsa, OK!...yeah right...

Oh, no, I definitely did not move to "Hooterville" for Westport or BBQ! It was because of family obligations. (Long story.)

Westport is really quite nice, but I'm a Melrose/Hollywood Blvd. girl myself. (Especially Melrose.) And, BBQ does me absolutely no good, because I'm a vegetarian. And, suffice it to say, I am not a sports fan (except for the Dodgers and Angels, just a little) so that big deal over football here is wasted on me. (Hell

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

I'm in KC too, in the Northland.  If an Apple Store were to come to KC, I really hope they don't put it out in the JoCo boonies, but rather on The Plaza.  Of course, putting it in Zona Rosa, which would be close to me would be wonderful, but I think The Plaza would make more sense.  It has the upscale atmosphere Apple looks for and its centrally located, as opposed to Lenexa.

As far as my Apple needs, I go to CompUSA or MacHardware.  I like the atmosphere of MacHardware and its closer to me than getting out to the OP or Independence CompUSA's.  I've also found the pricing for some accessories at CompUSA have been marked higher than Apple's own MSRP.  eek For instance, when I was looking for the DVI to ADC adapter, it was $25 more at the local CompUSA's than it was listed on Apple's own site.  I ended up going to MacHardware and paying the same price (MSRP) that Apple listed on their website.

Re: Apple Store Coming to Greater Kansas City Metro Area

while the plaza is a nice place to shop, its not where most of the people with "the money" are. Most people with the kind of money to afford a mac are out in the suburbs of 70th st and farther south. I think Town Center Plaza would be better, the BOSE store is there along with Galyans and AMC 20, its a really nice place, perfect for an apple store.
