I could have sworn someone just said something.

Re: Strong Sad has an iPod
I mean, really. If you don't get it, don't watch it.
I don't watch it, tard. But I would watch it if they were capable of making a story that actually gets to the end without making me think, "Huh? That's the end? Huh?"
Or an ending that actually makes me laugh when I get to it. Or anything that makes me laugh at all while I watch it. It feels like a great big inside joke that nobody ever let me in on or explained to me.

When a joke has to be explained in depth, that automatically qualifies it for the "not funny" column.

it's not that the joke needs to be explained in depth, basically in the e-mails reocurring themes from past e-mails will pop up sometimes. so if you haven't gone back and watched all the e-mails you won't always get the joke.
I recommend watching them because a lot of them are funny as hell, some are ok, but for the most part they are great.
You just have to give it a chance without being a dick first.

Re: Strong Sad has an iPod
I don't understand why people dismiss something as not funny when it is based on something in the past. So what, every comic/animation is supposed to be completely independent of the others? There's something to be said for continuity. The funniest jokes are the esoteric ones. They're only funny to the people that are part of that esoteric group, but its better than trying to appeal to every human being and failing miserably by making the jokes bland and generic. Penny-arcade is for gamers. If you're not a gamer then you won't get the jokes. It doesn't mean they're not funny. It means that you haven't made an effort to try and understand the material that they're working from. They also have recurring characters and recurring themes, such as the Cardboard Tube Samurai. Of course the mention of the Cardboard Tube Samurai doesn't make you laugh unless you've been reading Penny Arcade for the last year. It's built up a cult following. So disparate comics which stand on their own are all well and good, but you can get pretty creative and really develop characters and plot elements if you link all of the daily or weekly comics/episodes, making them less independent entities and more of a serial story.

Watching the 'guitar' e-mail and hearing Strong Bad scream "and the dragon comes in the NIIIIIIIIIIIGHTTTTTTT!" still cracks me up every time

Re: Strong Sad has an iPod
Yeah some things are timeless like my favorite joke is this one I hear in like 3rd grade....
Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?
because it fell asleep.
Why did the rat fall out of the tree?
because it was stapled to the monkey.
Now thats just classic.
You know the hole, the one you put the pie in?
My mean my pie-hole?
Yeah, shut it.

The "dragon" email is good too. He sings a song like, "Trogdor was a man...no...he was a...dragon-man!"
