Questions Questions Questions

Ight, i have a few questions.  first of all, i was wondering if anybody else is still having problems with their ethernet.  mine went out all of a sudden and the apple care people tell me i yanked on the cord when it was plugged in.  i have heard so many others having this same problem, but it is still everybody else's fault.  well i am still working on getting it fixed.

second quesiton, does anybody know where i can buy a usb/ethernet adapted for mac.  i have seen quite a few for pc, but can't find any for mac.  thanks

Re: Questions Questions Questions

D-Link just dropped a USB wireless connector. (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=175) you could either use this in your USB port or make the move up to an Airport card and a wireless router (I have experience with both Belkin and Netgear) and essentially elkiminate the need for the ethernet when you're at home.  COnvince your boss of the wisdom of installing wireless at work and bango, you kiss the constraints of Cat 5 goodbye (for the most part.)

Re: Questions Questions Questions

Wireless is great for web and email, but try copying large files over wireless and it's lunch time.

Can you be more specific about what your ethernet port is doing?  Maybe it is a bad Cat5 cable.  Do you have a router that runs DHCP?

If you have a router then I would hook your Mac to it with a new cable and open the network pane and see if you get a IP or whether it is self assigning one still.

If you did pull on the Cat5 cable, then I suppose you could have messed the port up.  This is one instance where I wish Apple would put the link and activity lights on their ethernet ports.  Oh well.

Re: Questions Questions Questions

My 12 inch ibook has taken some pretty hard pulls on the ethernet cord, and still seems to work great. Ill be more careful now though. I never knew this was known to cause problems. Thx.
