OS 9 Sound

What is the default format for sound files in OS 9? There are certain ones with a picture of a speaker over them. They play without having to launch an external program.
I ask because I am creating my own sound sets and all of my sounds are in the .wav format. I found a program to convert them to .aiff (which I assumed was the correct format). However it still launches quicktime to play the files.

Any help is of course greatly appreciated. Thanks all.   smile

Re: OS 9 Sound

I think they are called "macintosh sounds" or something like that.

On the school playground, two kids in kindergarten were arguing about something, and one of them started crying. A teacher comes up to them and asks what is wrong. The kid who is crying points to the other kid and goes "he insulted my operating system!"

Re: OS 9 Sound

I did this a long time ago, so it may be kinda wrong.

To turn it into 'snd' format (in ResEdit) I'd just drag the QuickTime file into AppleWorks which would make it copyable, then put it into a ResEdit file or straight into the sound control panel.

Hope it helps.

This signature has just wasted approximately 3.4 seconds of your time.

I did that. I opened a new text doc from appleworks, and pasted the .aiff file into it. Then I pasted it into resedit, saved it, and quicktime stil opens the file!. I ask because I am trying to custom create my own sound set. Thanks.
