UT2003 stock map and skin servers
I've been having a hell of a time connecting to UT2003 servers. It seems that: 1). There aren't that many servers (the browser only brings up a little over six hundred of them) and 2). And the ones there are are running custom maps and skins and I don't like downloading all this crap from these servers and not knowing what they are. Can anyone suggest any decent servers that run the stock maps (and the maps in the expansion packs that are included) and skins? This is such an awesome game, but I'm having a real hard time finding servers that I can connect to without downloading a ton of crap. I know that the Mac version can still be kind-of hard to find, and that most Macs still can't run it acceptably, but I'm fortunate that I have managed to get my hands on it, and it runs pretty well on my machine. Now if only I could find some servers that I could play on. Hopefully, there will be MA clan down the line, but anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have GameRanger? It allows you to start a game or play other games started by it's users. It supports 2k3 now, and it's free (as long as you don't go premium). My best bet would be to try GameRanger. You can also check out the UT 2003 server browser it also provides, maybe you'll find the server your looking for.
My new laptop:
1.8 GHz Athlon 64 Processor
512 MBs of RAM
64 MB nVidia Geforce4 440 chipset (not shared with system ram) (hauls @$$ though
)
40 Gig HD
15.4" Widescreen Display
Wireless 802.11g card (builtin)
24x CD-RW/8x DVD-ROM drive

Yeah, I've tried GR, but it seems most of the games there are also running custom maps and skins already, though not quite as much so as the games on UT's browser. Even when I choose servers using stock maps, it usually starts to download some types of packets.

Re: UT2003 stock map and skin servers
Try this, if the data can't come to you, come to it.
Try ftp://ftp.edome.net/mirror/beyondunreal
This ftp site contains alot of downloads for all the games in the Unreal Series. Try downloading the files the server says you needs, install them, and see if you can connect. Predownloading is faster, BTW.

There is a filter in the 2k3 server browser, play with it a bit and see if you can narrow things down a bit

Re: UT2003 stock map and skin servers
MA needs to put up a UT2003 Server. Especially with so many of the MA'ers buying G5's. Is there any discussion on putting a UT2K3 server up? At least one or two days a week would be nice.

Re: UT2003 stock map and skin servers
yeah.. that would be cool if MA had a UT2k3 server..
The G4 Dual 1.25 I have at work only gets 30fps MAX when playing UT2k3.. so.. i guess i wont be playing at home till i get a G5. Wonder what kind of FPS it will get?

Shark, I have a dual 1.25. I have to believe that the G5's with the 9800 Pro have to smoke what we're using right now. We'll know in a few weeks.
