Is it supposed to be this slow?

I'm used to Seti@Home's immediate feedback, I mean it's got the little percentage bar, the percentage stats, the big bar graph and everything.

I quit using Seti@Home once the screensaver stopped working, I think somewhere around or before Jaguar. (By the way, if anyone knows about this, please help. I'm running 10.2.3.)

I opened Folding the other day and walked away. A couple hours later I came back and it was 1% done. I mean, that little tenth percentage doesn't seem to update, now it's just sitting at 1.0%. I've never seen it at .8%, you know?

So is the client supposed to just kind of sit there? It seems slow to me, but it is my first time using it.

Yeah, Folding does take a long time to do a work unit. Just keep at it.

Re: Is it supposed to be this slow?

If you are concerned about speed run the cl version.  According to statsman, I'm averaging a little over 2 poins a day with my g4 933.  All the other computers have stopped sending in results. sad

Re: Is it supposed to be this slow?

Hi,

You will rarely see decimals. Most WUs consist of 100 frames. Every time a frame gets done, the percentage is increased. A couple of WUs have 50 or 200 frames, so there the percentages change by 2 or 0.5%. So, only in the latter case the digit after the period is used.

Re: Is it supposed to be this slow?

It does seem rather slow to me too, but I've left it on for a while and it does seem to have been making progress. It's just a complicated process so it will take a long time.

Re: Is it supposed to be this slow?

I too have come from other distributed computing efforts, and the slowness worried me at first.

It's interesting, but I think I might start running the background app version instead of the GUI, just because it's not too much fun to watch smile

Re: Is it supposed to be this slow?

yeah, i downloaded the graphical interface and started it up. It stayed at loading...., benchmarking... for like 3 hours. So I quit the app and restarted it. It then went to working but after another long wait, it hadnt gotten any progress.

I tried installing the screen saver too but I got an error installing.

I guess I'll just have to wait.
My computer is quite slow...

I run folding on a beige G3/266 DT, so your Powerbook, technically is not too slow.  I use the text client though. smile

Hey Artemis G3,

Isn't it time for you to pay a visit again to the AMC? They have been doing great reaching place 30, but now apparently they don't turn in units anymore.

Bye for now,

Ber

Yeah, I ought to, but it's 3 hours away and I just haven't had time lately.  Production only stopped about a week ago.

Oh well, I'm about to break 700 points myself! big_smile

Hi ArtemisG3,

According to the rumor sites, it may well be worth to go by Tuesday or Wednesday. ;-)

Bye for now,

Bert
