$219 million a year for Steve Jobs
Check it out
Damn... Warren Buffet is the man.
Steve Jobs and the fleecing of Apple.
YES, Jobs saved Apple... but this is a bit much. After all Apple did buy out NEXT from him for a cool half billion. And NEXT was not worth that amount. In "The second coming of Steve Jobs" it said that Next sold as many computers a year as Apple did PER DAY!
If Jobs really loved Apple, wouldn't he accept a much smaller salary from Apple? After all, Warren Buffet (the greatest financial mind of our day) only takes a salary of around $600K!

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs
$219 million is a bit much, but if you're a CEO of a major company, then you can do stuff like that. On top of that, people like Elisson and Jobs have very big egos, so they enjoy flaunting their success. I can't blame them, I might do the same if I were in that position. I'd be satisfied with $100 million though....maybe

think of walking on stage with all those people there screaming at you because you make cool computers... big ego? I think so. too much money? yes unless he never plans on taking another dime.

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs
I don't believe it. What happened to the $1 a year thing?
Maybe Apple spends $219 million on jet fuel or something gives him stock options worth that much, but I can't believe they just hand him a big check like that every year.

i'm curious as to what he's miling from pixar. i don't think steve has ever denied that he's good at being a shrewd business man.
he probably figures that now that apple is in the black pretty permanently, he can afford to take a little here and there. as long as they keep the accounting in order, no one's going to raise a stink.

Well, at $3k+ per tower, I bet it doesn't take long for us to pay him his homage.

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs
It sucks when there's been a company wide pay freeze for over a year. A friend of mine has ben with the Retail store for almost 2 years without a raise.

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs
I find these sorts of stories are usually riddled with errors, but even allowing for the usual "an option isn't worth much until it's sold", he's still getting a massive wad of cash.
If you were to look at 216M over a 48 week year, 40 hours a week, that's 103,846.15 every hour. That translates to 28.8462 dollars every second.
I'm starting to suspect that Apple might be slightly overpaying him.

I never understood why you would want more then 100$ million - after that it's just more money that sits in a bank.

You should visit As the Apple turns more often.
and for the lazy...
"But wait," you say, "I thought Steve's annual salary was only one dollar, and he was back at Apple out of the goodness of his heart." Well, technically, yes. But Graef Crystal over at Bloomberg is averaging over three years and including pay elements in addition to base salary, such as that tax-free Gulfstream jet that Apple's board awarded Steve as a thank-you gift in 2000 and his stock options covering 27.5 million shares. (Apparently the fact that those options were eventually traded in for five million free shares after Graef's study period and were worthless during it doesn't signify.) For those "extras," in addition to ranking as the highest-paid CEO in the country, Jobs also wins Graef's coveted "Most-Ludicrous-Pay-Package trophy."
Which all tells us two things: 1) they have trophies for everything these days, and 2) business pundits are never going to stop harping on those options or that freakin' jet. For our money, the bottom line on Jobs's compensation is that there's nary a doubt in our minds that Apple would have folded completely without him, or at least been bought out to build crappy Wintels for Compaq or something-- so as shareholders and as Mac users, we figure he's worth every penny. Still, these days we really wish he'd bought his own aircraft and turned down those worthless-anyway options, because the whole "Jobs Makes Trillions of Dollars Every Minute" thing is getting old.
Note to the board of directors: the next time you want to thank Steve for accomplishing the nigh-impossible, do us a favor-- just buy him a box of Blow Pops and be done with it."

I'd pay myself a lot more than that.

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs
When the CEO makes more than the company there is a real problem. How much did Apple profit in the last three years through this downturn. I know last quarter they only netted 19 million, and I remember a 35 million loss quarter, but thats it, sounds like they would be more profitable if they payed him less

Read the real stuff, not the sensationalistic crap. If your payment is in stock options, then the company's success is your success. It's not like Steve is getting wads of cash thrown at him.

Re: $219 million a year for Steve Jobs

Damm straight.
Has he grown Apples market-share in computers?, no.. he's lost it. Read this article again and again, Jobs ideas have taken Apple on a bumpy ride. He should be paid accordengly.
Motorola is partly to blame, but he's the man and at the end of the day the responsibility is on him.
Apple has ventured into selling music, iPods and other things that are not computers for reasons; the big one is they'd dry up is they had to survive on computers alone, that is Jobs responsibility. Look at the Apple filings if you don't believe it, selling computers is becoming a smaller part of Apples slim profit margin.
