If people are speaking a language you don't understand, just wait for the translation to appear in midair.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies

There was only one competant German betwee the years 1945 and 1972. (Most films from this era featuring a German used the same actor.)

Explosions are big.

Hackers are more often than not, Russian.

Why do so many films have crap foreign speaking in them? Hunt For Red October was the worst, but Sum O' All Fears sucked as well.

all mortal enemies would rather fight hand to hand than to shoot the other when one has a clear advantage.

ever see Indiana Jones where he's about to fight the guy with the large scimitar and he just shoots him? hilarious!

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies

bad guys can't shoot worth a damn.

good guys are impervious to a hail of bullets.

if a car hits another car, it will fly over it as if there was a ramp in front of the car it hit, and then explode.

you can jump from one cliff to another and cling to the one you jumped to with hooks.

you can get punched/kicked in the nuts and keep fighting.

Driving a car requires one to wildly turn the steering wheel from right to left, but there's no need to keep your eyes on the road.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies

As a city crumbles (due to earthquake/meteor/250' tall T-Rex) and everyone scurries about in terror, there will always be a lone, crying child who will inevitably be scooped up just a split second before a large piece of debris fall right in that spot.

No matter what, everything always turns out well in the end.

When confronted with a riddle the first choice kills a bad guy while the second choice helps along the good guy.

The dork of the group makes the biggest discovery.. and then gets killed off.

No matter how stong or smart or mean the alien life is, dumb humans  can always kill them with one of the following:

Inferior technology
Brute Force
Shampoo
(and my favorite) Country Western Music.

I thought that was true in real life also.

If it's a John Woo movie, no one is allowed to have less than two handguns, and despite always having doves everywhere, no one gets smurf on (as much as I'd have liked to have seen that happen to John Travolta in Face Off)

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies

Bad guys are always eccentric bazillionaires with limitless access to all the cutting edge technology.

Bad guys are always surrounded by ONLY the most gorgeous women who tend lay about in the most scanty attire. They seem to have no issues hanging with someone in the habit of killing people for the slightest reason, like serving apple instead of orange juice... BAM!

You can often tell the bad guys from the good guys by their teeth and personal grooming.

Doctors know everything there is to know about everything. Be it physics, biology, psychology, technology, minerology, whatever... If you have a doctor on your team, they can explain, repair, heal and build pretty much everything
[See X-Files: Scully; Gilligan's Island: Professor]

Space aliens ALWAYS want to take over the world. It's just what they do.

Your team doctor will be able to explain this behavior from this unknown race from an unknown planet with an unknown social order after only a few minutes of observation.

Things I have learnt from Vakoum Zakhov novels:
KGB agents are strong, devoted emotionally restrained heroes.
Western agents are greedy chauvinistic bastards.

When running away from anything all females will fall to the ground

An appendix to that...

Women will always be stupid enough to run in high heels...

Similar to that:  Every college student has a gigantic house to throw parties in, and the music is at an acceptable volume.  Also, every nightclub has special sound systems so that the music is loud on the dance floor but you can talk at a conversational level anyway.
