Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
Everyone can dance like a professional dancer.
Which is especially remarkable when the people involved have been forbidden to dance all their lives.
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

The president will always listen to the little guy when making any major desicions.
The president doesn't make any major decisions.
Jack Ryan and his mentor are the only honest people in Washington.

every nightclub has special sound systems so that the music is loud on the dance floor but you can talk at a conversational level anyway.
except in Trainspotting :-)

1. Cars are always washed and shiny and have no bugs on the windshield.
And the road or streets are always wet-but it's never raining.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
- the negotiator cop is always black (the negotiator, phone booth)
- the black guy always gets killed first (midnight five)
- the hero is outlined at the start of the film, therefore the audience knows he is therefore invincible for the whole movie
- all cops carry 9mm pistols with them (no such think as a p38 or service pistol)
- police cars roll to easily
- people get thrown back into their car seat at high speed.
- it only rains for the duration that two characters are outside realising they are in love.
- a person can run the street, get skittled by cars, jump over bonnets and still be able to run.
- all death lazers are green or blue.
- my most hated. (law and order: SVU) All child porn crims use apple computers, and then when the cops take it, they can just magically throw the HD in a PC and mount it.
- typing irradically, yet only producing five words (Assasins, both mission impossibles, independence day)

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
I'm not talkin' about the accent, I'm talking about the stuff with subtitles. That wasn't an accent problem, it was a "he's not speaking any actual language" issue.
I always thought it seemed like they weren't speaking actual Russian in Dr. Strangelove besides words like 'da' and 'shtoah.' Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
People who are shot never bleed as much as they would in real life.
*except for in Reservoir Dogs
I think you'll find that this is taken care of relatively realistically in most non-action movies or movies with 'real' directors, especially someone as meticulous as QT.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
Why do so many films have crap foreign speaking in them? Hunt For Red October was the worst, but Sum O' All Fears sucked as well.
Probably because it's faster/easier/cheaper to cast an actor who fits the part but doesn't speak the real language than it is to find an actor who fits the part and speaks the real language. And it'd also cost money to hire someone to write the actual lines in the actual language. I'm sure most people don't notice.
In a similar vein, does anyone remember when the Simpsons visit New York City (alas, this episode wont be aired any more
) and Lisa goes to the Russian district? She asks for directions from two Russian men who reply politely (according to the subtitles) but very angrily (according to their inflection). I always found this very funny. German and Russian sound 'angry' to Americans, I think.

It never spinkles or rains, it's always a turrential downpour.
Everyone can dance in sync to a new song that no one has ever heard before.
The dog always survives (except in Jurassic Park Lost World)
Bondage to Spiritual Faith; Spiritual Faith to Courage; Courage to Freedom;
Freedom to Abundance; Abundance to Selfishness; Selfishness to Complacency;
Complacency to Apathy; Apathy to Fear; Fear to Dependency; Dependency back to Bondage

The women also remember to wear shoes with straps (so they won't fall off while dancing) and to wear a bodysuit underneath their dress.

The space bar is totally unnecessary for typing. The t, d, s, k, and l keys are essential and may even be used exclusively, and any number key or 3rd row letter key is to be used for emphsis only.

Lightning is always immediately accompanied by thunder; there's never a delay.
The high school bully NEVER gets away with it, he'll always suffer a dire consequence before school's out, typically massive humiliation at the prom. His beautiful girlfriend will then fall in love with the Good Guy.

They don't need to speak the language. They need someone to write out the words in Romanic characters and then have the voice coach thing give him a tinsy, weeny bit of help.
