Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
No matter how stong or smart or mean the alien life is, dumb humans can always kill them with one of the following:
Inferior technology
Brute Force
Shampoo
(and my favorite) Country Western Music.Don't forget water (Signs)
thanks for the spoiler.
Sorry! It's been on cable so I figured everyone's seen it.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
Why do so many films have crap foreign speaking in them? Hunt For Red October was the worst, but Sum O' All Fears sucked as well.
Probably because it's faster/easier/cheaper to cast an actor who fits the part but doesn't speak the real language than it is to find an actor who fits the part and speaks the real language. And it'd also cost money to hire someone to write the actual lines in the actual language. I'm sure most people don't notice.
German and Russian sound 'angry' to Americans, I think. They don't need to speak the language. They need someone to write out the words in Romanic characters and then have the voice coach thing give him a tinsy, weeny bit of help.
That costs money too.

That's a pretty high assumption. Really.

So you probably don't want to know that Signs wasn't really about "aliens" per se, but more about everything happening for a reason?
And for the record, the water thing, isn't a spoiler by a long shot.

You kill the aliens with water seems like a pretty big spoiler. But then again, I haven't see the movie.

I can't figure out why everybody would watch the movie, because it is played on cable.

Re: Things I've learned by watching movies
I'm not trying to be obnoxious, but I figured that anyone who wanted to watch the movie, would watch it while it's on cable (i.e. FREE) rather than pay 5 bucks to rent it at blockbuster. Especially since it's been on for a while and there have been a lot of chances to see it. But, I guess not everyone thinks like me...

Umm...you have free cable? Around here it's like $35/month.
And the "killed by water" thing is so bloody obvious earlier on that one need not feel like the movie has been spoiled. Besides, you'll probably fall asleep before you get to that part.

$35 for basic, or basic digital? We pay $45 for Digital Cable with a few extra options. Basic Cable (only 60 or so channels) is $10.

What part of Albuquerque are you in? I've never seen a Comcast bill for <$40, and when we tried getting digital cable 2 years ago with that $49/month for 3 months deal, the first month they tried to charge us $96, so we returned the receivers the next day. The next month they tried to charge us $400 per receiver(we had two, but we had returned both the day after the outrageous bill) saying that we hadn't returned them, and we only got those charges removed when we threatened to sue.
We called DirecTV the same day, hooked up with them, and cancelled Comcast.

But they don't get "killed by water". They get killed by "primative methods" according to the announcer on TV.
