Any way to run Airport and Ethernet simultaneously?
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but...
I'd like to use ethernet to network my G4 and my ibook, and have a crossover cable contecting the two. I find sharing files goes much more quickly using ethernet rather than Airport. But I'd like to continue to use Airport as my way to connect to the internet on both machines. I find that I am unable to maintain both connections simultaneously. If I have the ethernet connection running and then turn on Airport - crash!
Am I missing something here or am I trying to do the impossible? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Any way to run Airport and Ethernet simultaneously?
I have a PowerBook and an old mac.. I get on the Internet via the Airport and share files with the old mac via ethernet. I've manually set up the ip addresses for the ethernet connection and I have no problems. What do you mean it crashes?

Re: Any way to run Airport and Ethernet simultaneously?
Are they both running 10.x.x? Do they both have the same order for network connections(i.e. use ethernet first,Airport second, dialup last)?
What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Re: Any way to run Airport and Ethernet simultaneously?
I took Say_What's advice and made sure both machines had the same order for network connections and also updated the ibook to 10.2.3 - and that seems to have solved the problem. I did not have to manually enter the IP address on either machine.
Before this solution, the G4 tower would just freeze up after I turned on airport, after having established the ethernet connection.
In any case, it seems to be solved now. Many thanks for the suggestions.
