MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

Perhaps this is borderline Rant Room Material, but it's related to the mag.

Well, apparently I haven't been studying hard enough (studying hardly: hardly studying) because I only got "Colonel Panic."  I was hoping for Terminal Geek this time because I only got Colonel Panic last year as well.  39 Points...  I guess since I don't really know any Unix anyway it's a pretty impressive score.

Re: MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

You're not alone.  I scored a good deal lower than I did last year, eeking out only Classic User, just a few below Colonel Panic. (I do get to CP-level if you include my second guesses.  wink)

Re: MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

Maybe this one had more OS X/Unix questions, because I too scored lower than last year.  I think that I only got 31 and just barly made it into the Colonel Panic.

I really like have these quizes though.  They make MA more fun I'd have to say.  Keep it up up

Hmmm. I think I scored lower, but not much lower than last time. 50/60 on this one, and 3/5

Re: MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

This year's was harder - no doubt about it. IIRC, I got 52 or 53. And then 1 of 5 on ubergeek. I agree it was the extra Unix (TM)  wink questions that were the toughest. Well, that and I said Max was the least likely to crash Jobs' plane. How can a cartoon character crash a plane? I guess I missed the latest issue of "Stalker Update" to know that Jen Mo is a pilot.

Wow -- I guess I'm in the minority. I (still) hold my rank at a Terminal Geek.  Last year I was Carbon-Dated too. Lessee - last year I got 52/60, this year I got 47/60.

I also put  big_smile  as the one who wouldn't crash the Gulfstream V. Then I read it was JenMo - OOPS.

Oh well. How'd everyone else do?

Ah! Got it. The G5 has 3 million fewer transistors than a P4. Do I get an extra point for guessing that Rik got that number from this page?

Last year, I was on the low end of Terminal Geek, but I got all 5 Carbon Dated questions. This year I got 55/60 and 4

Didn't take the test last year, but this year I squeeked by to Terminal Geek with 46/60.

I guess my clients would be happy to hear that, since I sell and repair Macs for a living?

Re: MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

i was driving up from burbank to emeryville, CA to stay the week and decided to stop at apple's hq in cupertino.  i remembered the bar question and saw the building it evidently was in.  it's now a BJ's, one of my favorite pizza places ever, so i ate there (btw, if anyone goes there, the great white pizza is GREAT).
now, i'm in emeryville (right across the street from the apple store).  hey, is niko still up for iPod engraving.

Sorry, but wrong.  Yeah, that's what Ars Technica (supremely cool site...) sez, but in Steve's keynote, he was talkin' 58M.  Times change...

And Im going to say its question 3 because its always question 3. Damn trouble maker.

Still a Terminal Geek. Scored a 52 this year.

Didn't do very well on the Ubergeek section though. Only scored 2/5. As a CS guy though I've always been more of a software geek than a hardware geek.

52 baby!  Total Terminal Geek here!  Should have had 53... I answered 'E' to question 39, which I thought was a perfectly legitimate answer to a math question. big_smile

Now, now. You didn't use www.google.com during the quiz did you? That would have been strictly verboten according to the instructions.

Re: MacAddict Quiz Sept 2003 Issue

I knew that there are 8 bits in a byte, 1024 bytes in a megabyte, et cetera.  I didn't feel like doing the math.  Since the intent of the question was likely testing whether or not people knew about the extra 24 or the 8 bits to the byte thing (kilo, mega, and giga are just standard metric measurements; I'm sure people could have figured it out from there), I don't think using Google was illegal.

I would have gotten it right either way; it would have just taken five minutes longer for me to do all the math.
