OS 11 or 10.3?

I'm going from memory here since I don't have the magazine in front of me, but this has been driving me crazy...

Why does the cover refer to OS 11, show pictures of an OS 11 install disc but refer to it elsewhere in the Mag as 10.3?  Panther is going to be 10.3, right?  What's with 11?

i think it was ment to tell people that 10.3 was a very big upgrade without any words, well just numbers.

Re: OS 11 or 10.3?

Hmmmm that's a good question.  I noticed that too.  I think that Apple is going to be calling Panther 10.3 and not 11.  But it is strange that MA uses OS 11 and OS 10.3  shrug

Yes, this is indeed strange. Perhaps one of the MA gods can grace us with their presence and give us an answer to this one..

Re: OS 11 or 10.3?

It is refering to 10.3, which is a major revision upgrade for the O.S..
APPLE will use the X moniker for as long as possible.

Re: OS 11 or 10.3?

whoa, let's not call anything x11, that is a form of a GUI on the Linux/Unix side that has also been ported to work with OS X.

MacAddict was being humorous with OS X's next huge upgrade OS X panther, 10.3.

Yeah...MacAddict was being humorous. You can tell by the question mark after OS 11.
I think they got that idea from some pic of the Panther Disc (the picture next to OS 11) on the internet that said OS 11.

Actually, when Panther was first announced, Apple posted that same pic of "Mac OS X v11" on the website promoting the new features of Panther.

Re: OS 11 or 10.3?

whoa, 10.3 watch out, that marketing department get's pretty gun-ho sometimes.

I would say that some of their 'ideas' sometimes get out as real rumors, but since the actual Panther Betas are reading as Mac OS X 10.3, I wouldn't worry about it too soon.

AWAIT 10.3, IT WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF MAN.

You're right -- we were just goofin', as well as implying that the upgrade is a big deal.

i read the article, and thats exactly what the cover meant, but don't wait with anticipation for os 11 because as everyone in here already knows os 1-9 were all the same so one can assume that os 10-19 will be basically the same or there abouts unless a 3D operating system comes out in the near future

Yeah, and it'll need a G6 to even run at tolerable speeds.
