CodeWarrior 8 for $99

Some years ago I bought CodeWarrior for AUS$800, and given the amount of use I've gotten from it and subsequent (paid) updates, I judged it good value.

Apple's ProjectBuilder is nice enough, but is glacially slow. Cimpilations mean 'extended coffee break' to me on that thing. It's good a bunch of good points though, the major one being that it's free.

Metrowerks have just released a promo deal for CodeWarrior 8. It's the whole thing, minus Java and cross-platform development.

It's down to $99 which is ridiculously cheap. I'll order my copy in a few days (I'm on CW7 and have been saving for the upgrade).

ANy other programmers out there?

wow

I think codewarrior gonna fade away though
I wish theyd add their perks to objective c. C/C++/Java all have those helpful menus and such.

If you upgrade from 7 is it even cheaper?

I think this is their attempt at making themselves relevant again. After all, Apple released a simple and complete compiler. CodeWarrior has always been a better, faster and more complete compiler. One gets you up and running; the other gets you efficiency.

Objective-C is supported in this, although I've not seen it in action. Look over the website (linked above). The datasheet pdf should answer a few questions.

I'm not spruiking their product, but I think that it's been a bit under-announced. I'm certain there are some other people around these forums who'd like to get this, and this might save them money (compared to the full version).

Re: CodeWarrior 8 for $99

Wait, this $99 thing is for the full version right?

BTW, have you used the december build of project builder.  It crashes a lot, I'm wondering if anyone is having this problem.  Also, it has that IE thing where text disappears and you have to select all.

Great. Rather than download the 300MB file, I sent away for the US$20 CD version. Oh well... I don't use ProjectBuilder - I just wanted the documentation and utilities.

Re: CodeWarrior 8 for $99

I got codewarrior 8 pro for $99 for the student version. Of course not everyone can do this, but you can always go hit up on the local college punks to get one for ya

Re: CodeWarrior 8 for $99

This version of CodeWarrior sadly does not support making OS 9 compatible CFM apps. Bleh. That's why it's so cheap.

I was pretty sure that this version could compile Carbon apps for OS 9 (or X). I can't find the pdf on my drive right now though...

From this thread on Ars. This Devstudio can assist in carbonizing old apps, but from what I can tell it will not compile OS 9 executables. This PDF is a bit on the vague side, but the features section of the site specifically says Mach-O only.
