jeez guys you cant figure that out

Umm, we did figure that out..  It's Apple you need to speak to.  Then again, maybe it would be more beneficial if you just stop saying anything.

Using the keyboard for extending/modifying mouse functions is much quicker than right clicking and much more funerer.

Dude, you are so wrong.  I hope you're joking..

Same here. I've grown acustomed to a tw button mouse. It greatly increases productivity when used properly.

Re: New Apple Wireless keyboard and mouse!!

i've grown accustomed to a 6 button track ball with a scrolling ring (i had to lose my 8 button mouse because of wrist pains), but i still think the single button mouse and keyboard is a better setup. i just dont sit ergonomically correct so it doesnt work as well for me.

i think apple is justified in using a single button mouse. its just better for you not to mention the simplicity for people who don't post incessantly on online forums and are computer geeks (yes, we are) who know most hidden/obscure funtions of our os.

on that note, i think scroll wheels are okay as long as they're not a part of your main input device. then, they are evil and should be destroyed, burned and ground up into tiny little pieces.

Warmest regards.

Sincerely,
Kevin

Re: New Apple Wireless keyboard and mouse!!

Why do people want more than one button?  We already have a million buttons on the keyboard.  Using the keyboard for extending/modifying mouse functions is much quicker than right clicking and much more funerer.

The purpose of a two button mouse is the same as keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys. In an ergonomically correct world, you would be able to perform most functions (barring, of course, entering text) with EITHER the keyboard or the mouse.

This saves time, energy, and wear and tear on your joints.

Computer ergonomics dictates this. GUI usability rules dictate this. Industry standards dictate this. Common sense dictates this.

I'd actually bet money on multi-button mice being responsible for a greater relative percentage of repetitive stress injuries and such than single-button mice.  The finger movements for clicking and scrolling, the position of the hand needed to hold the mouse, the size and shape of most multi-button mice, and the arm and wrist movements necessary to move the mouse about are all quite unnatural movements in comparison to that of a single-button mouse.

I probably would not take your money. It would not be fair. This is a VERY simple FACT of GUI implementation and is the reason mice have buttons at all. Later this evening I will dig through all of my GUI/Comp Theory texts and type up portions of the sections in EVERY SINGLE TEXT BOOK about this issue. I'm not flaming apple. They make a design choice and stick to it. Their users like it and it works, so hey, more power to them. I just ordered my first ibook and am looking forward to using it sans mouse but this does not change FACTS.

Edit: You also seem to ignore the point made about the functionality of performing all* options with either mouse OR keyboard, but that's o.k.

Re: New Apple Wireless keyboard and mouse!!

You're talking about GUI concepts (for which there is support in both directions, both in written books and common sense examples derived from circumstances and experiences of the real world).  I'm talking about the movements and positions of the hand/arm when using single-button vs. multi-button and that I'm quite certain multi-button mice cause more RSI than single-button mice (percentage relative to the number of devices of each type in use).  GUI concepts, ease of use, and "hotkey" access have absolutely no bearing on physical movement and ergonomics.

The elevated wrist position, finger and thumb extension (and hyper-extension), continuous isolated finger movements, typically raised finger for utilizing the scroll wheel, and unnatural wrist and forearm movements which are typical for using multi-button mice (especially larger ones with the "ergonomic" curve to make the mouse fit into the right hand) all strike me as unnatural, un-ergonomic, and potentially damaging and painful movements and hand positions.

I've used a 2 button mouse all the time I've used a computer. I've never had any problems with it. Clicking either button is anologous to hitting a key on a keyboard. I've actually got a slightly stronger wrist because of the mouse. The mouse also helped recouperate my right wrist after I broke it. Using the scroll button is a similar movement to feeling something with your finger. If I could I would get a track ball because I'm really fond of my precision with it.

Different meaning of the word. "Powered by Intel P4", the P4 doesn't provide the juice, the wall outlet does.

its not bluetooths slogen or anything i just think "connected by bluetooth" sounds better and creates less confusion i could imagine a switcher or newbie seeing that ad and thinking it will never need batteries then later finding out it wasnt like that

Normally I would agree that the wording is a bit confusing, but since you've been acting like such a troll lately, I'll say that....

neutral  You now what?  I had a good personal attack going there, but I think I'll just shut up now. I feel like I'm starting to sound like a jerk, even if it is against some lame ass troll.

I'd be more worried about a newbie because a switcher should know better. Slogans or not language like that is all over the place in advertising/marketing let alone in the computer field. If you don't understand the vernacular, learn it.

Re: New Apple Wireless keyboard and mouse!!

Well, Apple has officially lost its mind in creating yet another line of one-button mice. Even though they look nice, and are wireless Apple products, I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole.

My Logitch MX500 offers 7 buttons and a scrollie... which would you pick? Hot damn.

Nice idea.....poor implementation!

I can't believe that we waited all this time and got a crappy one button mouse without a scroll wheel. Apple at least needs to offer the option. There is no way I would purchase a second mouse (wireless or not) if it didn't have the second button and scroll wheel.

I am very upset that they have the nerve to slap the "Pro" label on it just because it is wireless. "Pro" would indicate to me someone who is well versed in the use of their computer and I would think that someone could handle more than one button.

Later, Frank

Oh, please...

Nice response. It really lets everyone know where you stand. Perhaps you should step back into reality.

Take a look at Apple's other "Pro" products, the G5 and the PowerBook. They ar......ect ect ect ect

Later, Frank

Agree with ya frank
