AppleWorks craziness!
Okay, I finally upgraded to OSX 10.2. But after I was done, I started up AppleWorks, which is my only word processor. It froze, so I forced it to close, but now it won't open up again! I always get thef following message:
The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<AppleWorks><MW_MSL_.PPC.shlb><InterfaceLib><>"
I went on the Apple discussion site, and found other people with the same problem, but the only solution mentioned was to trash some library files, which didn't work. People are also complaining that reinstalling Appleworks didn't work either.
Help! I really need this stupid thing!

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Did you try downloading the latest version (6.2.4)?

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Yeah, I've got that. All updated and everything. It stopped working as soon as I installed Jaguar!
I HATE having to restart in OS9 just to use AppleWorks. Seems like a total Microsoftesque bug! Bummer.

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Well, Textedit actually makes a pretty good WP. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.
Sorry. Also, if you install Fink, there are also some pretty good X Window WPs. Again, sorry I don't have a solution.

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Maybe the fact is that AppleWorks just needs an update. In general that application needs a major overhaul... I'm beginning to feel that Apple has abandoned Appleworks completely!!

I think they actually have. Did you know that they took down the online clip-art? One of the perks in Appleworks was a huge online clip-are database! It was on the box even!

I got that sort of error message with ICQ when I moved it out of its folder. Is AppleWorks in the Applications folder?
YEAH. AND IT DOES NEED A MAJOR UPDATE. THAT COSTS MONEY. I'M TALKING MONEY-UPDATE HERE.

Damn, it does seem to be a bug. Anyone know how I let Apple know about it? They have some sort of procedure for that, don't they?

For drawing and spreadsheets, Appleworks is very good for me.
But, Wordperfect in Classic has been outstanding for me. Nice menus and plenty of preferences to play with.

Are you talking about it costing Apple alot of money to update AppleWorks or the customer? I would be quite willing to pay a full price for a reworked, for-X version of AppleWorks. I guess the feeling is that AppleWorks is too home-user based to ever make it an accual business app. With too many other choices, are AppleWorks' days numbered?? I really would hate to see that. Wouldn't schools as well??

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Appleworks should really be updated soon, maybe if we started some commosion or something, oh well, let's wait and see. WHile we're on the topic, do you know how I can make Appleworks 6.2.4 auto open a new word processor document? I never use the other things and it would be easier without pressing the obvious button, thanks.

Well, Keynote essentially squashed the AppleWorks presentation module...

I had no problems with AppleWorks after installing Jag. I performed a clean install of OS X when I installed 10.2 (10, 9 and AppleWorks are all on separate partitions) and that may have helped. I would try trashing AppleWorks and reinstalling in the OS X applications folder. On a new partion you should get new libraries and everything. You problaby have one file or folder that's hosed and it is difficult to figure out which one. A new install would likely be the easiest solution.

I just wanted all of you to know. that if I had to choose between a new copy of AppleWorks and anyone off you. I would choose the new AppleWorks. I am not sorry about it, you have to admit it most likely will be more useful than you.

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Well, Classic started acting up, so I did a complete software restore on my OS9 partition. It also reinstalled AppleWorks, which, suddenly, operates just fine in OSX. Why? Well, I noticed two things: I haven't upgraded to 9.2 yet (I think it's at 9.1), and I also haven't updated AppleWorks to 6.2.4. Could this be it? Makes me think so.
I may update one of the copies of AppleWorks I have (the one I moved to the X disk) and see if it still works. But I'm afraid of screwing it all up again!

Re: AppleWorks craziness!
Naw, I don't think it has to do with the updates. I neuroticly keep program versions up to date and am running OS 9.2.2 and AW 6.2.4 (and of course 10.2.3) with no problems. I still maintain something was boogered up and got replaced when you did the Restore. I'd bet money that if you updated now everything would still be fine.
As to how I installed my software: I installed a new HD and after creating 3 partitons, I loaded OS 9.1 first, then OS 10.0 followed by upgrades to 10.1.5 and 9.2 then I started installing apps. I didn't upgrade to 10.2 until last month, and I did that by erasing the X partion and doing a complete install of OS X.
BTW, I'm having my own AW Craziness that I posted about in the Commercial Software Forum in the AppleWorks Graphs - Rotate y-axis title thread. Any help would be appreciated. I guess that wasn't the most high profile forum to post in.
