How to play AAC files in Windows Media Player (in Windows)?

Subject says it all ... is there a plug-in or anything that allows you to play AAC files in Windows Media Player for Windows?  I just discovered a plug-in that works for WinAmp, but I'm just curious if it can be done with WMP.  Thanks........

... should be here next week...

your question tho is really for people who are a lot more familiar with pc's than you'll find a lot of here. I'd suggest asking this elsewhere.

I don't think it can be done with WMP, but Quicktime for Windows can apparently play them, and iTunes for Windows will be here next week.

Well, for the time being, you can use

Quintessential Cd Player.

It's a great lil mp3 player, and you can download an aac/mp4 plug in that allows you to play aac files on your pc.

That's what I do, from my iPod to boot!

Re: How to play AAC files in Windows Media Player (in Windows)?

Thanks, I'm aware of iTunes for Windows, but I was asking for a friend of mine who is one of those hold-outs from 10 years ago with massive biases against anything Apple.

So, he uses WMP like the good little MS slave that he is.  Well, au contraire, mon frere, it's not the Mac who isn't behaving... it's MS who doesn't play well with that format.  wink

That's what I thought too, but it turns out that windows can't read files with the .m4a extension (yes, even with QuickTime 6.3, or atleast my friend said he had 6.3). I found that all I had to do to correct the problem was change the .m4a to .mp4 and it played great!  up  But if he's a windows holdout, he probably doesn't even have QuickTime player...  shrug

PS - iTunes for windows comes out next week?!?! THAT IS AWESOME! Finally all will understand the true power of the apple classic

I BELIEVE!

That's true, but if you change the file extension to .mp4 then everything is fine.
