Panther Beta Testers, Look Here!!!

I can get Panther for $69 because I am a student, is it worth the price? Do you think the enhancements are really worth the money? Especially seeing as how I'll be shipping out in June for a couple of years, away from my PowerBook. What would you guys say?

Thanks,

-KW

I hate polls so I am not voting, but in a word, yes, Panther is well worth $129 let alone $69.00.

If you're going to be away from your computer for a couple of years then no, don't get it.  Apple will be out with newer versions by then - or you could just get it used.

My question is this - where are you going that you're not going to be able to bring your Powerbook, and for a couple of years at that?  Iraq?  (If so, see November 2003 MacAddict, page 12)

No, I'm not in the military. I'm leaving to serve a mission for my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, AKA "Mormons") for two years. (seen the guys in white shirts with the little black tags on their left shirt pocket?) I don't know where I'm going yet, I don't find out until about 2-3 months before I leave. Anyway, that's why I'll be leaving! Please no mormon rants....  wink

Have fun.  up  We gave at the office.   tongue

That's the great part about having a portable computer... they're portable.  Why is it you can't bring your Powerbook along again?

Re: Panther Beta Testers, Look Here!!!

Even if you're going to be using it for 8 months, it should be a big enough improvement for $69. Expos

Why can't you take your Powerbook with you?  Are you going to a third world country that doesn't have electricity?  Seriously, is it against the rules or something?

Funny you should mention going to a third world country without electricity, because that is more than entirely possible. I could end up anywhere on the globe (besides mainland China, North Korea, Cuba, or the Middle East). We're not aloud to bring electronics like laptops or computers because (a) we won't need them and (b) a computer would distract us missionaries from totally serving with all our heart, might, mind and strength. The cool thing about serving a mission is that we totally get to shut out all normal worries and cares and totally focus on learning to love the people we're called to serve and the work of spreading the "good news." I'm really looking forward to it. As for my decision whether to get Panther or not... I put in my order. It will be at my apartment door on October 24 at 8 PM. "It's my birthday gift to me! I'm so happy..."
