MacAddict SETI Team Revival
Hey team!
Things need some shakin' up around here!
First off, I want to get the site redone, up to speed and rockin' again. I'm looking for volunteers (Hey, I'm not getting paid, so neither are you.
) for the following:
Contributing writers:
FAQ / Troubleshooting / Tips and Tricks - prefer weekly or bi-weekly content. Got an idea for a regular column? Lets talk.
Statistics - doing it by hand is a big drag... I'm looking for someone who can automate the process. I'm not looking for something huge like they have at Team LambChop, but anything is better than what we have now, right?
PHP/mySQL gurus: I know enough to be dangerous, and that's about it for now. I need some help getting out of having to hard-code everything.
If you would like to help get this team back in the top ten, reply here, send me a PM or an email. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
Once we get the site rockin' again, I want to start a big membership push. There's no reason we can't "storm the castle" one more time, right?

Re: MacAddict SETI Team Revival
Hey MadMan 459. Long time no seee. I just came back from Folding@home. i figured that FOlding really sucks (no cache) and my iBOok doesn't Fold too fast. I'm on dialup so I've gotta manually up/down.
I just temporarily went over from Team Mac Addict to Tweakers Australia. No one seems to Seti there, so might as well come back to TMA!
I would love to help with the contributions; however I need to brush on my Seti knowledge now that i've been "away on Folding" for over a year now.
Crancking space data on P4/1.6 (6 hr/WU) and iBook 800 (yet to know speed). Soon (hopefully) to get my PM G3/233 (21-30? hours, i think) up and running again.

Sweet!
Welcome back!
Yeah, I was checking in here pretty regularly after posting this but it sat for quite a while unanswered.
I fear the team may be beyond help? I'm still wanting to kick it in the butt though, so if you want to contribute, PM or email me and we'll talk!

Well... I think that whoever has the password for the team, should use it to "Remove Inactive Members"! There are a lot of members on there that have not contributed anything in years! They are just wasting space and resources.
BTW, Team MacAddict is #10 in the Clubs section, #11 overall.

Well, as I understand it there's a downside to removing inactive members; their contribution to the total is also removed, and since an "active" member is someone who has contributed a result within the last 28 days, that would effectively torpedo us in the rankings

Sorry, MadMan, I was going to IM you or post earlier, but I don't think it would be fair to others, as I can't commit to any specific amount of time per week (or even any on some weeks
). That darn job
Of course, given the fact that I'm not a web expert or graphic designer, I'm not sure how much I could contribute in any case
If you need some help with technical proofreading (I won't be so grandiose as to call it technical editor), I can probably help out here & there. I'm not a PHP/mySQL expert by any means, but I've written some stuff for my own use, and I use Oracle at work (I'm a DBA), so I could also help some with the back-end database stuff, if you need someone to bounce ideas off of or help debugging. I don't want to commit to any more, because I wouldn't want to do a half-assed job, which I what I'm afraid it would be given my usual time constraints.

Oh, I just noticed this stidky. For statistics, we can leech off of SETI@Netherlands who are still doing a bang-up job.
The Open Directory Project has us listed as second from the top, so at the very least, This page should have a big, flashing link to this here forum.
That might scare up someone with talent or enthusiasm.

Well, I am back from a very big lag... Do not have that alpha server anymore
... now only 4 eMacs@700 MHz and 3 B&W G3@400 MHz. and just one of them is crunching numbers 24/7. So, that is the only help I can give you now, guys.

Re: MacAddict SETI Team Revival
I got my PC (XP2700) crunching 24/7. That helps some, I guess.
I don't know any web programming languages... could I maybe write some FAQs or a ho-to guide?

Re: MacAddict SETI Team Revival
Just joined the team, been planning to for a while. I have a 2.4GHz P4 working almost all the time, and my Dual 2.0GHz G5 will be working on them also in its free time.
