Warped Screens, Latch Problems and White Spots all related
They appear to be related at least on my Aluminum 15. I have one very mild dime size white spot which I am still debating what to do about it.
Anyway I noticed that the lid on my PB also does not align evenly either being slightly higher on the outer edges.
Also I have had a few occasions where I closed the lid and it did not latch. I attributed this to being a little too gentle when closing the lid and if i did it a less gently it would close.
So what's the point? Well after getting home from a business trip I noticed all three problems went away for a day or so before they came back. My theory is that a warped lid is the source of all these problems.
On my trip, the PB was on the bottom of a very tight briefcase and sat that way for about 6 hours. When I got back home the lid gradually returned to its pre-trip (warped) shape.
To test this theory, I (gently) set my girlfriends old Powerbook on top of it overnight and viola for about half the day no white spot or latch issues. Lastly as I sit here writing this, if I use my hands and flex the middle of the screen outward(hands on the edges of the frame, thumbs at the latch pressing outward) I can make the white spot momentarily go away.
Which to me helps explain why the spots don't always occur right away (mine didn't) but gradually appear as the system is used. The lid is warping when it's open and not from when it was packed tightly and closed.
So I wonder is there a way that I can permanetly unbend the lid without doing more damage to it.
Or maybe just too much coffee this morning.

Re: Warped Screens, Latch Problems and White Spots all related
it actually makes sense. an apple tech explained that the problem is the spacer between the shell and the screen. your explanation would seem to fit this scenario.
