Re: The mormans are doing it too!

hehe, Ya missionaries annoy they hell out of me.

They are ignorant righteous young adults who help to strip the world of variety and culture.  Moreover, 98% of these kids have never actually taken any time to put and serious critical thought into their beliefs. Most of them are handing out Watch Tower because their pears and family have guided them to do so.

And then there's the suit and bikes.... now that's just dorky.

heh....u show your ignorance; Jehannum is right about have the guts to go around talking to strangers and beliefs... heck, a lot of people won't do it on an internet message board.   And I suppose you know about the 98% because u actually spoke with the last group that came to your door  wink

Re: The mormans are doing it too!

An old co-worker of mine had the best solution I think.

He had them come around his plave pretty much teh same time every week.  Now he worked third shift so them banging on his door in the middle of the afternoon really pissed him off since he was supposed to be sleeping at this time.

So he prepared for them.  He put black curtains up in his living room, Lit candles, got an old robe and a knife that he covered in fake blood, which he also splattered on the robe.
When they came around the next time he opened the door and smiled at them.  Then told them they were there just in time for the sacrifice and inveted them in.

They never came around again.

My solution was much simpler.  A .45 on my hip and telling them how seriously I took tresspassing scared them off for good.

It's religious zealot bashing, not a bashing of religion itself.

Re: The mormans are doing it too!

I got two mormans coming to my door week after week, spreading the word of jesus christ, do I look like I want that, answering the door in my what would buddha do shirt! But you couldn't tell I was buddhist by looking at me, im white, but still, have a little respect for my religion, and don't come into my house, next time I'll blast Cannibal Corpse and answer the door, or have I been babbling and mormans are the same as jehova's witnesses. I dunno, no offense to and mormans or j.w.'s. I DONT WANT THE WATCHTOWER!

You don't sound like you are being a very good Buddhist.

It's religious zealot bashing, but a bashing of religion itself.

The mormons who come around are usually on mission - something that's more or less a coming of age ritual in that religion.  It's hardly a benchmark for zealots.  I applaud them for spreading the word of god to anybody who will listen to them.  I wish I had the guts to do the same.

Re: The mormans are doing it too!

Thanks Jehannum, it's nice to have a little backup.  It's easy to see these two (usually dorky) MIBs at the door and think they are part of some brainwashed cult gestapo.  In the case of those hailing from out here in Mountain Time Zone, they might have had quite a sheltered childhood and are almost certainly more nervous about you than you are about them.  The experience they have with you might actually affect the opinion they have about "gentiles" (non-LDS) in general, other than what they see on TV.

Think about it.  The power is yours.

Re: The mormans are doing it too!

Anybody who comes to my door peddling anything--be it newspapers or religion--is met with irritation, if not outright hostility. Why? Because this is my home, dammit, and I don't want people coming over trying to sell me something I don't need or want. Same goes with telephone solicitors. I quickly but firmly tell them that I'm not interested.

I hardly think that's religion bashing. I have an aunt and uncle who are mormon. Great people. The religion is fine, if quirky. Just leave me the hell alone.

Re: The mormans are doing it too!

I had a Mormon boyfriend. His mom was frighteningly intimidating. She made me feel like I was stealing her son away into the corrupt world of non-believers. His dad was cool. All the boys eventually went on missions. My boyfriend's mission was to Japan (FYI by that time we weren't dating anymore). Besides the proselyting, he learned a super-tough language and gained a great sense of Japanese culture after two years. I applied to Brigham Young for their language program, but in the end decided it was too far from home.

I secretly wanted to pull him away from it all, like get in a plane to Japan, convince him it was all a farce and that he had to do what he really wanted to do. It was really an internal struggle between me and Mormonism. I wanted to conquer it, and be more important than a church. Sounds selfish, yes, but I was young. Just thought I'd share.

Oh, please!

Get some critical thinking skills about your religion, if you've the guts, and then we'll talk, otherwise, all people who go door to door for the sake on conversion can kiss my shiny, gleaming buttcheeks.
