Too bad the source was the New York Post. They're about as credible as Some Guy's Blog.

Too bad it's McDonalds. I used to eat there regularly, but the cardboard to meat ratio of their burgers got too high for me and I had to switch to Wendy's.

I'd say Reuters has a bit more credibility, it's definitely true:

You know, the meat they use is probably cheaper than cardboard.

Re: Mac & McDonald's = 1 billion songs
I realize it is a billion songs and all but this promo will in no way be as cool as the Pepsi promo. Why? I'm glad you asked.
McDonalds usually puts there promo items on Super Size drinks and fries. The Pepsi promo is on 20 oz bottles.
The Super Sized items cost around $1.50 and a 20 oz soda is 99 cents. Of course, if the odds of winning the McDonalds promo is every other or better than it might end up being a wash when held agaist Pepsi's one in three.

As legal representation for the cardboard industry, I ask you to retract that remark or we will sue for slandering our product, which is way better than McDonalds meat.

Did you guys read the article?
McDonalds doesn't kick this off until the Superbowl in February. Isn't that kind of far-away?
That's frickin 4 months from now. They're gonna let the competition catch up. I say, hit them with a blitz now.

So does this mean that after Apple sells 1bn songs, they're gonna put a banner on the iTMS front page that says "Over 1 billion served"?

Ha Ha I've been saying that forever and had yet to have anyone agree with me.
my actual comment goes something like this; "I ordered a Domino's Pizza and didn't realize I was eating the box it came in."

Re: Mac & McDonald's = 1 billion songs
A McDonald's iTunes promo? Yeah, it could be a big deal indeed, but it's certainly not definite yet. A McDonald's spokesperson has already dismissed it as "pure speculation":
McDonald's Corp. (NYSE:MCD - News) characterized a published report that it plans a massive digital song giveaway promotion as "pure speculation."
Responding to inquiries about a story in Thursday's New York Post that the fast-food giant will team up with Apple Computer Inc. (NasdaqNM:AAPL - News) to offer up to one billion free iTune downloads, McDonald's issued a statement saying, "There are no agreements to announce, so anything else is pure speculation."
iTunes is a digital jukebox software product from Apple that allows a person to download music online. Apple's retail price per song is 99 cents.
The Post story said McDonald's is close to announcing a deal with Apple in which the restaurant chain would buy as many as one billion songs, at 99 cents each, in a major promotion.
If true, that could mean McDonald's might shell out as much as $990 million, a staggering figure. Last year the company's advertising expenditures totaled $ 647.6 million.
McDonald's statement said it "continues to aggressively pursue bold new initiatives in the areas of music, sports, fashion and entertainment to connect with our customers in fresh and relevant ways...You can expect news from McDonald's on a variety of fronts in the coming weeks and months."
Of course, businesses always downplay such rumors even when true until they're willing to make their own announcements, and I wouldn't take this story as confirmation the promotion won't happen...
