Imac G3 400mhz - 320mb Ram
Hi Guys!
First post so go easy on me 
I have just bought a second hand Ruby Imac DV which has 320mb RAM and a G3 400mhz processor. I was wondering whether this machine would be capable of running OSX? as I was thinking of purchasing Panther, after being very impressed with using OSX on a friends machine!!
Any thoughts?
What would the performance be like?

It will be good enouth for you to play around, you can do most things on it.
It might be a bit slow in major applications, but for normal work its pretty good!
This thread will probably be spammed by silly teenagers who think that you need a 1GHz G4 with 2GB of RAM just to run Safari, dont belive them.
Your mac is fine.

I have just upgraded the ram to 384mb which will help a little more I suppose , as I have read the more ram the better!

yeah, we all know you need a Dual G5 with at least 4 GB of ram to run safari decently

I just destroyed my 400 MHz G3 laptop, and instead of getting a new laptop, decided on buying the exact same thing on ebay because I was happy with the performance, and it was cheaper. I don't do any "heavy lifting" with my laptop anymore, and the speed of Panther on it, was fine with me. Unless you are going to be compressing a whole bunch of video files, or fixing a 50 Mb file in PS, it should be fine.
