IBM BLADE SERVER with PPC970,, Will it run darwin?
IBM just announced that they're selling blade servers with PPC970 (G5) chips. They sound like nice machines, cheap, dual processors. However, they're making the whole system, which means OSX is out.
My question is: does Darwin install on NON-apple PPC machines?
Bling bling.

Isn't there even a build of Darwin for X86? I haven't tried to run Darwin on machine besides a mac let alone on a mac so I can't say for sure.

there is a build for x86 (only Intel though), but that's not the point.. IBM's machines use the PowerPC 970, the same processor that's inside Apple's PowerMac G5

Yeah, and I was trying to illustrate that Darwin is even compatible with chips that can't run OS X. Therefore you might think that I was implying that it would be stupid that Darwin couldn't run on a 970 in an IBM machine.

OK,
so the answer is YES. IBM's new Blade Servers will be able to run Darwin.
Suddenly, all became right and good int he world.
Someone send an email to IBM's CEO, tell him to pre-install Darwin on them before shipping, and today's good deed is done. whomever does it gets a complimentary brownie.

Well, IBM already expects 2.4's by mid-2k4, so we can expect the 3's coming pretty soon.
