word processor?

I've had just about enough with OpenOffice.  The darned thing hangs all the time, and has all these annoying little "features".  MS Word has them, too.  I hate it when word processors try to tell me how I want my text to look.  And OpenOffice won't customize nicely, either... and the hangs kill me.

Anywho, anybody else know of any good, free word processors out there?

Re: word processor?

I'll assume you want a little more than just Emacs. How about AbiWord or LedIt?

Re: word processor?

I use gvim when I need emacs wink

But yeah, I'd forgotten about Abi because the version that came with this system didn't work.  I just redownloaded it and wham, it's perfect!  It's got all the features I need, but none of them are forced into my nose.  Yay :-)  Thanks!

A little *more* than emacs?  I beg to differ.

Re: word processor?

They're totally different things tongue  I wouldn't use emacs/gvim/etc for writing up a paper (unless maybe I were doing it in LaTeX), nor would I use Abi/OOffice/etc for scripting/programming.

Re: word processor?

I use vim for quick HTML editing and pico for all else (conf files and things like that)

I must say, for a full scale editor OpenOffice Writer is schweet.

EMACS users should be purged off this earth with a fire axe.

Pico's great for quick edits, but I'd go with Nano. Nano has everything Pico has and more (like find/replace).
