Graphic design on Imac
Hi all ,
I'm currently desiging art work for a CD, on my trusted Imac dv - using Photoshop 3.5
However, things that looks great on the Imac - looks much darker after I print it (Using Canon 3000BJC , and quality paper)
I remember with my old Mac, there was some kind of gamma to adjust the screen to look real . Any ideas how can I do it with my Imac.
OS X (Photoshop works in Classic and print in classic as well)
thanks
Danny

Re: Graphic design on Imac
You can make a profile in Monitors Control Panel (OS9) if you have Colorsync installed or install Adobe Gamma (do a search on your HD to see if it was installed by default with the PS install).
The first thing I would do in your situation is make sure the data in your file is showing the dark info you see on your printer by looking at the RGB values in PS. If the data matches the densities that you see on the monitor then your monitor is correct and your printer profile is either not installed or it's corrupt or is not being read/translated properly by PS or Colorsync. The version of PS you're using uses your monitor profile to determine the values. A 20 step RGB grayscale (255 to 0) pattern which you can make in PS will make it easier to judge proper densities on monitor to printer.
Hope this helps.

Re: Graphic design on Imac
Thanks for the quick reply .
It sure feel like its all over my head but anyway,
I did my own version of greyscal by drawing lines, and setting the color as follow :
1. R:0 G:0 B:0
2. R:10 G:10 B:10
....
25. R:250 G:250 B:250
26 R:255 G:255 B:255
It seems to be currect when I print. Going from full Black to nothing (I really can't see the last line)
My second step was to launce an old Gamma porgram that I have and simply drag the one slider to -56 until the drawing in PS looked like the printed version... Now as soon as I get some more Quality paper I can print the result again.
thanks again, any more tips are wellcom.
Danny

Ahh! Paper type. That was my next question. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
If you use highly absorbent plain paper and use a print profile meant for a smooth slick surface paper, that can make your prints dark as well. Much like magic marker on a paper towel.
Cool website, Redstone.
