Icons- How do I open them in Photoshop?

Simple question:  How do i open an icon (any old one) into Photoshop?

In and around the lake,
Mountains come out of the sky
And they stand there!

Hmmm, I s'pose you could Get Info on the icon in the Finder, then copy-n-paste it into a new doc in PS. Is there a way to ResEdit the icn resource out into a readable PICT file to import in to PS?

I just do the copy / paste method.  It seems to work the best for me.  There may be a different way to do it, but I don't know it.

tip:  if you have an image on the clipboard, and create a New Document in Photoshop, Photoshop will set the dimensions of the new doc to match the clipboard's image.

I use IconBuilder. It has Photoshop plugins and it very easy to use. More details http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo. … amp;db=mac

There may be a different way to do it, but I don't know it.

In Photoshop, choose "File | Import | PICT resource..." It will give you a browse window and you open a file with the particular icon. This will give you all sorts of resources like scroll wheels, etc...

Just scan through your options until you find the icon. In 6.0.1 in classic, I pulled a 89 x 139 icon out of a carbon app (Fetch) so I think you can grab OS X icons as well (maybe not cocoa though).

tip:  if you have an image on the clipboard, and create a New Document in Photoshop, Photoshop will set the dimensions of the new doc to match the clipboard's image.

A very handy tip as well.
