Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

Interesting speculation

Although I am not sure if I want MS to be messing around with Nintendo, at least Nintendo might get Halo 2 etc... then.

Well the era of consoles designed from special parts and unique technology is almost dead lol. Pretty soon we can all just call them CouchPotato PCs.

I miss Sega sad cry.

No kidding!  I do wish that Microsoft would stop its relentless push into everything it doesn't already have control of!  How could they ruin a good company like nintendo?  What next, Microsoft artificial hearts?  I can see it now...  you have to sit plugged into the internet for 4 hours a day if you have a Microsoft

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

Frankly, I don't want MS anywhere near Nintendo.  MS's push has been to obliterate innovation through calculated use of their power and money; all in the name of more power and control over more individual facets of consumer electronics.  Nintendo, especially since MS entered the console fray, has practically been the sole source of innovation and video games as art, and have held true to ideals of designing great games.

MS could bring some good things to the table, but they are also impossibly corrupt as a whole, and have an approach and ideals which are very much antithetical to Nintendo's.

What happened to Sega after the Dreamcast, anyway?

They went off to become a software-only company.

Nintendo will not be going the way of Sega, though.  Of this, I am certain.

Not to sound cynical, but didn't they say that about McDonnel-Douglas and Boeing?

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

Hmm... I seem to remember that Nintendo really screwed their developers back in the NES days to stay in power. Look it up it's in the history books.

And what's so inovative about Nintendo? They made tons of sequels to all their games that are usually pretty close to the last version including stories. They have their own flavor, that's good enough for me. Or do you consider them innovative because they aren't in the fairly stale FPS market? Not trying to sound like I'm ripping on just seeing product markets in general as becoming uniformly stale. Especially after the seeing the Matrix sequels.

My Xbox is simply a Halo machine. Microsoft may have created the Xbox, but Bungie made it their own. Without Halo, the Xbox probably would have died.

Well there are some fairly unrelated comments, can't remember where I was going with this. Must sleep.

I like Microsoft and the Xbox.  smile

I dont see how one can argue that Nintendo pushes for inovation while MS seems to oppose it. It seems like quite the opposite to me.

It's getting knocked because:
- It's more expensive
- The controller needs to be redesigned
- The only game worth playing for it is Halo
- Halo is out for PC and will soon be out for Mac

A) seeing as how it comes with it's own hard drive and ethernet card without having to buy them seperatley, no, no it's not.
B) It was. But then again, it never needed to be. The original fits my hands just fine.
C) Wait, so Shenmue 2 is nothing? No Soul Calibur II , GTA, or the horde of great Capcom games?
D) Big deal, Halo sucks.

A) I don't care about playing online, that is what my computer is for. And my GC can connect to other cubes if I ever wanted to.
B) You must have giganto hands or something
C) Wait, so those are Xbox exclusives?
D) Okay so Xbox is now no longer a Halo box but a box that PC fanboys buy. Okay.

A) I don't like online games, anyway.  The people who populate online games are mostly stupid, immature schmucks.  If you beat them they'll scream and yell "j00 l0ser, j00 cheat0red" and if you lose to them "j00 l0ser, i 0wnz0rz j00!  hahahah!!11!!1!!"
B) No, it still sucks.  I have large hands, and it doesn't fit my hands at all.  It's unwieldy and uncomfortable.
C) Most of those games aren't exclusive to XBox, and the GC exclusive Capcom games such as Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, and Killer 7 are better games.  Ha.
D) Halo is a good shooter, though.  A typical, fairly unoriginal shooter, but among the best in its class, regardless of what ideological criticisms can be leveled against it.

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

This looks like fun, my turn.

A) I hate online games too, but it kicks for having LAN games.
Xbox=cheap LAN games; Computers=expensive LAN games.
Xbox=Halo LAN games; Computers=everything LAN games.
B) With my friends, nobody wants the big controller, and everybody thinks the small controllers are perfect.
C) I could care less, I bought the Xbox more or less to play Halo.
D) Halo is freaking awesome. Sure it's nothing completely revolutionary, with it's often repetitive looking levels, but the vehicles and AI sure add up for something. All in all the most polished FPS I've played.

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

I have both  a GC and an Xbox.

I am thinking of selling my Xbox.  I was really into Mech Assault and Knights of the Old Republic for about.. ooooh... 2 or 3 days. Then I went back to my Gamecube.

I will have some time over the christmas break to play a little more often (no papers to write) so I'll see what is what then.  I just picked up the PTO MOHAA game for the Xbox, and if I hate it, it'll all go in one big bundle to some lucky soul.

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

I have Halo for my PC, and I have not used it for three weeks.  I found something better, Metroid Prime for my new Gamecube is just amazing.  It may not be multi player, however it gets a perfect 10 from me.  I'll give Halo an 8.

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

Yeah, I thought Metroid Prime was really cool too, but then I beat it. It's not nearly as much fun to play a second time when you know were everything is. So as a game that lasts 10-30 hours depending on how thoroughly you play it, it has little replay value.

I still find the Halo single player levels fun because the AI and level design seem to keep it fresh. By level design I specifically mean each room individually, there are windows jump through, multiple floors, stuff that allows you to try different styles and strategy.

Both are top notch games, but I just can't bring myself to play Metroid over a third time.

Re: Xbox 2 = Gamecube 2?

So says you.  I've played and replayed Metroid Prime more times than I can count at this point.  I space it out enough so that I kind of forget where things are, though.  I also always shut off the hint system (even on my first time through the game) so that it doesn't interrupt my exploration or try to lead me around by the nose.  It also helps to never consult any guides.

Of course, I'll never be able to play Metroid Prime all the way through 4-5 times in one week, like I could do, and have done, with Super Metroid, but I'll probably end up putting just as many hours into Metroid Prime as I've put into Super Metroid.  It's just a masterpiece.

It's also important to play through at least three times: once just to beat the game at 100%, another time to get all the log scans (unless you can get 100% of the pick ups and 100% of the log book your first time through), and then a third time to beat it on hard mode.  Playing in hard mode adds quite a bit of extra value.
