during the setup for the keyboard and mouse.
what gives?

Re: win2k install stuck
I'd check for BIOS updates before I'd install W2K on that machine.

Re: win2k install stuck
i went to microns website and it tells me this:
System BIOS: Flash ROM 2MB; Boot from CD-ROM; ACPI Compliant DMI 2.0
Video BIOS: Internal w/System BIOS (NeoMagic Video BIOS)
how do i check to see if there is an update?

Re: win2k install stuck
From the manufacturers website.
If there are updates for the computer, they may involve more than just the BIOS. They may have updates for the video, sound, network, etc so do a bit of poking around the site, usually in an area called 'support'.
Be especially mindfull of the instructions that come with the BIOS update.
I don't know if updating the BIOS and other drivers is required in your case, but given the age of the PC, it's a good place to start.

Re: win2k install stuck
ok.
i dug through the micron website
there was a bios upgrade for the gobook series, but it says not to install it on a gobook2 (which is what i have).
i glanced over at the little fellow and low and behold the progress bar moved!
right before my eyes.
so, it isn't stuck...its just moving REALLY REALLY slow.
at this rate i should be at win2k by 3k.
anyway.
should i worry about it?
or just let it do its thing....assuming its the old hardware making the installl crawl.
and will this be any indication of what using 2k will be like on this machine?
i'd hate to go back to win98.
pthhh.

Re: win2k install stuck
I really can't advise because I know nothing of that particular machine. Win2000 can be configured to run faster, and consume fewer resources than Win98, even though it is a larger OS. But how long the install should take on that PC I couldn't say. What is the speed of the CDROM drive? My guess is that the total install time may be up to an hour long.

Something is wrong there alright. If this is an OEM version of Win2k I'd recommend backing up your data and booting from the CD. Let Win2k wipe the drive adn start fresh.
If thats not an option than keep running win98.

Re: win2k install stuck
You can try slipstreaming in the service packs, then doing an install it's real easy.
If you're interested I'll dig up the info I have, else a Google of Windows 2000 + slipstream should prive the info.
